:egg8: Have been watching them without posting since the egg was laid. Did not see a 3rd one during the times I was checking today. In fact I believe it was this morning when the cam was following during a nest exchange and I could only see part of 1 egg, so guess the 2nd had rolled up against the lip and out of sight.

Can't see a thing as the screen is pitch black. Maybe a wee hint of where she is in the nest, but no way to see if she were to lay an egg.

Hi all. Not great news. Our mama fractured her beak in some sort of collision. You can see it when she lifts her head. Hopefully it will be ok. Bryan and the wildlife vets were more optimistic than me.

In the meantime, the 4th egg was laid early this afternoon, but no mention of a fractured beak.

VDWR update on 4th egg. :15heartbeat:

:15heartbeat: She finally came in for the nest exchange at 15:13 and I can see the most distal portion of the tip of the upper beak is missing, but it looks as if there is still a very small overlap left on the upper beak. Don't know the condition of the lower beak. I kept going back on their daily's and could see the same when the cam is in close view, so decided to go back in the captures of their updates and even the capture from "Flights, Camera, Action on March 3rd it looks to me the tip was already missing. Did she come back this season with this injury that they could see before the cams were turned on? Can you all see the tip is missing on the 3rd? If so, she is still able to tear and eat her food and I fall on the optimistic side. I don't know however, if this will bear any burden or not on her ability to tear the smaller pieces needed to feed the hatchlings when they come though.

Oh NO!! I am heart sick that I'm still using my old computer and cannot get this cam!! I used to be able to get the highlight reel, but can't even get that anymore...can only watch on my phone.

I think at this point, we need to stay optimistic...

Barb, do you remember that female we had at Cobb years ago? Her beak was crazy bad...and we were panicked if she would be able to eat or even feed the chicks. The chicks had more food on them than in them, but it worked out...I miss Cobb and JRB

Staying optimistic. Wish I could look back on cam to see. If she can eat, should be ok. Must be on other side (right)as I can’t see it in picture.

:15heartbeat: He's on egg duty right now, but I hear some cries, so hoping she will come in shortly and face us to see her beak from a frontal view.

Yes, I know, I think we have seen this several times. The cam is still at JRB in perfect working order, he just won’t do anything with it ( the guy that installed it). Cobb is so beautiful, I really miss that. It had barn owls for a little while.

I haven’t asked, but I thought it was fine in the earlier photos they posted.

Thanks for responding, Barb! When I posted previous of what I was seeing at 15:13 I could only see her beak from the left side. In this particular capture below that is a frontal view, her upper beak looks blunted to me and is missing the distal most portion (tip that comes to a fine point). I also think I can see a split in the upper beak above the blunted area and a tiny gap toward the left of center that I think I see a portion of the bottom beak between what's left of the 2 sides of the upper beak. In all the other more recent updates the distal beak is lost with the background of the gravel on the floor of the nest or the black of her malar stripe as her head is tilted that way or one capture we only see her tailfeathers.

March 3, 2023

To follow up on my previous post, I actually stayed till 9:13 their time and he was still on egg duty. Even went through a rain shower and she did not come in to the nest, although she is nearby as I could still hear her soft cries at times. Will go back in now to see if she came in.

Edit to add 10:08: She is back in the nest with a nice view of her tailfeathers and left side of her face when she turns her head around.,,
