After not being at TS since March 1st, Beauty has returned home this afternoon!

I have been looking in and looking at cams and falcon watches. I sure hope to see eggs soon

Yes, at the nearby Powers Building box. That’s where the original Mariah and Kaver box is located and new guy really likes it there. Let’s hope she returns to TS again and he follows her to there…. I don’t think he’s ever been near the TS box.

I saw on the falcon forum for Rochester that Beauty and her Unbanded Tiercel friend spent a lot of time at the Powers building nestbox today. New mate, new venue?

Sad news from Rochester I'm afraid: Beauty has passed away during the night. She is at the Powers nest.

Female Beauty 81 / Y - born 2007 in the Pittsburgh Cathedral nest
(daughter of Dorothy and Erie) since 2009 in this nest.

Blog update...4/5/22

It is with a very heavy heart that we must report that Beauty has passed away overnight. Last night she laid down on the platform in front of the Powers nest box, by early morning, she died.

Beauty was 15 years old, which is a very long life for a Peregrine Falcon in the wild. She raised many young over her years in Rochester, NY.

Her long time mate Dot.ca did not return this year. No battles were witnessed, so we may never know what happened to him.

UT, an unbanded tiercel, arrived and both he and Beauty bonded and were seen together over the past couple months.

We were very hopeful that Beauty would raise a family this year.

The DEC will be notified. If we learn anything, we will let you know.

this is so heartbreaking. I remember when she came. One of those many incredible greats.
I remember after Mariah, we wondered, but Beauty just was Beauty.
Incredible, formidable. A force to be reckoned with.

Rochester was one of my first nests to follow. such incredible males and females

I follow the falcon watches there and enjoy their pictures and reports

It did not take long...new unbanded female...and serious bonding..

I have to wonder if she had anything to do with Beauty's passing..

I realize this speaks positively to the peregrine population, but I am just not ready for this...

me either SGB. different at Berkely as there were eggs.

but not here. last photos someone here posted was Beauty with wings looking in self defense
at 6 in morning???
and yesterday , a last post in watch was they thought a another falcon flew through. maybe Beauty's reluctance to nest at other box

I hope they can figure out what happened...and I just pray it wasn't the deadly Avian Flu that is rampant in some areas. I hope, since she was a senior, that she just died in a peaceful, fluttering way. :cryinggirl:

Her name fit her perfectly. She brought me so much joy. I learned her voice, her behavior and her patterns over the years. I will miss her terribly, always remember her. I know she is at peace, don't have to worry about where she might be, or what happened to her, waiting for news of her sighting.

Thank you to all my falcon BCAW & Rfalconcam friends for the education, interaction & joy you've given me over the years.

I was up on and off most of night watching Beauty peacefully pass away. So thankful we have closure. She didn’t appear to be right to me in the past few weeks….very tired and was often seen sleeping, laying down in the Powers box. DC was gone and the new guy had no interest in the TS box , even when she tried to lure him over there. Yesterday afternoon, she was standing outside the Powers box, with eyes closed, for several hrs. UT tried to give her a food gift but she refused. As night approached, she laid down in front of the box, eventually turning to her left side…I saw no movement. I also hope it wasn’t the Avian flu but we’ll probably never know. She was a strong, faithful Falcon and a wonderful mother to her 33 offspring. Fly free, Beauty. I love you. :sorrow:
