Thanks, Bev. She was special to so many and, living near Rochester, I’ve had the privilege of seeing Beauty and DC at TS and flying the skies with fledglings. It was amazing!

To watch from the ground is just the best. In a way, I am glad these two are not banded. No expectations.
Even from a distance, we all felt a connection. Take care Kris

I am so sad to see this news. She was a beautiful, striking Falcon. I remember she was in rehab and came straight back to reclaim her box. I’m sorry for all her loyal fans.

Kris, thanks so much for sharing the tribute from Kate....and thank you for sharing your experience of staying with Beauty through the night. That must have been so difficult and hard to watch...knowing that you were helpless to do anything but be with her in spirit.

I remember doing the same with Cobb Island's Renatta...as she slowly passed away while on her eggs...her long time mate, Mitchell, doing his best to get her up...I was fortunate to have contacts..that could race to her aid...but, being on an island with only access via boat...Libby was too late.

This wonderful Tribute to Beauty triggered so many memories of the greats we have lost.

RIP, Beauty...you did your species proud and it will be hard for any who follow to fill your falcon shoes!!

I would think a few weeks till eggs. It will be bittersweet, but must remember, without this pair, nesting does not go on. Because of Beauty and Dot.ca, this is all possible :15heartbeat: d :15heartbeat: d :15heartbeat:

Sad you had to go through this as well but we do it because we love our birds and care about what happens to them. I was glad the DEC picked her up as soon as they did. I’m hoping we get a cause of death report from them but I doubt it. Kate posted she thinks she could have been egg bound, like her mother Dorothy was, or it was old age. Actually, Kate St. John and another watcher named Beauty when she was a fledgling….it was a great name for her.

And life goes on……..
I see some pics of our new Rochester pair have been posted. They’re both unbanded so we call them UT and UF for unbanded tiercel and unbanded Falcon or female. It wasn’t long after Beauty was picked up by the DEC that this female came in and he started swooping at her…reminiscent of DC swooping on Beauty in 2012. Then, miraculously, they were seen bonding in the Times Square nestbox! Possibly he got spooked when the DEC came in and took his mate’s body which sent him over to TS. Since then, he’s brought her food, they’ve been seen bonding in the nest box and they’re mating so looks like we could still have eggs this year….hopefully. I say hopefully because we got notice today there’s going to be work done on both the front of TS and Powers starting on or around April 15th. They say TS front will be done in a day for stone work then they’ll move around to the back but Powers will require cranes and several days of work to install air conditioning units. Hope our new pair will be bonded enough to stay at TS. Stay tuned…..

:attention: Thank you for the update, Kris- best wishes to Rochester’s new pair. My “home “ nest went through losing both beloved peregrines a few years ago …it takes a while to get used to.
