Looks like there has been a 2nd hatch at Landings. Mom was seen eating egg shells last night, but she is not letting anyone see her new baby. At least, not yet. :loveshow: Last two days have been beautiful and sunny.

Landings cam, Savannah, Georgia.

All going well at this nest with our baby owlets, now 6 and 9 days old. Mom has been keeping the kids covered, but you can see a face peeking out from under her, which I think is the older chick. I got lucky when Mom got up to check a nearby tree for food, where Dad has been stashing the prey. She cam back empty and starting calling out to him to go hunt. She is absolutely gorgeous. :loveshow:

3.15 am Owlets alone and no food and she returned without food. I am sure she is eating. she MUST take care of herself first.

I am watching landings owl in Georgia. I did last year too.
That male doesnt appear to provide well, nest is empty too often.
Last nite the female left owlets nearly an hour.
She must have hunted and ate but did NOT bring home the bacon.

March 8 the crows were AWFUL. Often they are terrible!
I wonder if they killed the male - but he was like this last year too.

I went on site and dad provides food in other trees for her to take in. They seem to be getting enough, according to site????

Pic from last night. The younger owlet is in the foreground snoozing. The eyes are now open and the older sibling is really taking in the world. A leftover rat is visible on the right side of the nest and the oldest owlet was trying to chow down a rat tail before I got this pic. It took a while to get it down... so, not sure if it was a whole rat or a portion of one. This particular chick tried to down a whole rat earlier in the week, but Mom wisely took it away...lol.

Mom and the kids.

Some pics from this morning. The pin feathers have broken their sheath on the oldest owlet, who can now stand up nicely and often has eyes wide open. The pin feathers are coming in nicely on the younger sibling. I didn't see any leftovers in the nest, but Mom was not calling out for food and everyone seemed satisfied. There could be leftovers in a nearby tree. Such a beautiful location where this nest is. Spring has definitely arrived in Georgia with the trees budding out and beautiful music from the surrounding birds heard on cam. :shamrock2:

The oldest owlet and Mom, perched side-by-side, taking in the morning together. :15heartbeat:
Image
A crow had the nerve to land in Mom's tree. She was not happy...clapping her beak together, but not using full defense mode. This was a warning! :15val:
Image
The crow wisely departed and Mom was calm again. Oldest owlet laying in front of her in the foreground. It's hard to see in this pic, but the baby's eyes are open and visibly yellow.

Freddie, that appears to be a Mama tending to some eggs underneath her. :newegg: :shamrock5:

Landings cam, Savannah, Georgia.
Mom took a break around 6:30 pm and gave me a chance to see the kids, who are now 13 and 16 days old.

Oldest owlet in front. You can see the tan feathers with black fringe coming in under the white down. Such a fuzzy wuzzy!
Image

The younger owlet is on the left. Those eyes look like they have eyeliner.
Image

As evening set in, both owlets huddled together waiting for dinner to arrive. The older one is in front. I watched them for a good 1 1/2 hrs and the younger one is clearly the most restless and vocal of the two. Heh Mom, where's that dinner?

A cuddle huddle. The older owlet in front. :7val:

Three weeks old and looking good (21 and 24 days since hatch). It's that time of the year and the squirrels have been pesky, chasing each other up and down the tree much to Mom's chagrin, who is always shooing them away...lol. We've had a variety of food in the nest...rats, snakes, lizards, an egret, and yes,...a squirrel or two. The flight feathers can be seen growing in.

Mom with both kiddies huddled together.

"Look Mom, I can stand!" Check out the legs on this owlet. They look like tree stumps. Flight feathers can be seen growing in. Mom has an egret in front her and the other owlet is sleeping on the other side of her, out of view.
Image

This is a close-up of the kids that was taken from a posted twitter pic on the cam site. Beautiful eyes.

The owlets are going on 4 wks old and they still like to cuddle with Mom. Yesterday, I saw her preen the younger owlet. It was sooooo sweet. I had never seen that before by a parent. Here's some pics from today.

Youngest owlet on the left with a big yawn. Sleepy baby. There's an egret in the nest.

Younger owlet on the left. I suppose if you face opposite directions, no pesky squirrels can sneak up on you. :teehee:
Image

Mom with the kiddies. Right after I snapped this pic, the older sibling next to Mom tried to snuggle up under her. As big as they are, they still look for comfort from Mom. :loveheart:

The camera seems to be somewhat askew.
There are 3 little owlets right now. I saw them briefly, when the mother was away.
