author :Pot Plant Owl"So today was supposed to be the naming of our second adopted owlet chick but...we've decided to keep you in suspense for a couple more days....
The reason for this is that we're getting together with Karla Bloem from the Houston Nature Center / International Festival of Owls this Friday 9th November. I'm so excited to see her again and show her the PPO family!
We've shortlisted "lucky 8" names from the many great names we got in and we're going to ask Karla to "meet" the chick on Friday morning and give us her pick.
Before I get to the shortlisted names, I want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to put forward names. We loved them all but can only choose lucky 8 for the shortlist for Karla.
A special shout out to the funniest name we got in from Chris Parham who thought "Brendan" would be an appropriate name - given that Brendan from the Owl Rescue Centre got hit on the head as he was taking away the eggs (IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE VIDEO, GO TO OUR YOU TUBE PAGE "POT PLANT OWL"). Chris, I had a good laugh at your name - thanks!
Okay, in no particular order, here are the Top Eight Shortlisted Names:
1. Matumaini (meaning Hope) - Maureen R
2. Isipho (meaning Gift) - Marion
3. Tau (meaning Lion for the introverted one) - Estelle Mann
4. Krag (meaning Power / Strength in memory of Rose) - Tani Schwartz-Gilbert
5. Tikva (meaning Hope) - Joanne56
6. Dayo (meaning Joy Arrives) - Sherrie Pearl
7. Nthabiseng / "Thabs" for short (meaning Makes Me Happy) - Anne Buchanan
8. Umcebo (meaning Treasure) - Michael Bronewski
So, there you have it! Good luck everyone. Sorry if your name didn't make the Top 8 but I can tell you that the rest of you were all joint 9s and 10s so you can be proud!
Roll on Friday, Karla!"
