Well I got a e-mail from Bob today asking about the raccoons so I thought its a good time to ask him peronally about the cam and if something can be done about the coons here is the reply I got

Janice, New cameras were installed and we are switching to new video encoders. All cams should be up and running soon. At the Valmont Great Horned Owl nest we have a defective cable that is being replaced. Weather permitting. Regarding the Raccoons, I don't think they would approach the nest if the adults were on eggs. The only raccoon predation event that I heard of re; raccoon and eaglets was a nest in VA were the eaglets were too old to be brooded and were not protected. I sent your captured image to the plant and we'll look into raccoon repellent or, live traps. Many thanks... Bob Anderson

They're probably digging around for the eagles leftovers. I don't think they climb in there with an eagle there either ... but still ... if they were to spook an eagle off the nest at night they would surely grab an egg.

I have a soft spot for raccoons for some reason, but I sure wouldn't want one to get an egg or harm an eaglet. Let's hope they don't interfere with this nest after eggs are laid.
