Dad brought in another fish when he dropped by, and the eaglets are self feeding.

I am watching them now, eating. I think they should wait & watch. If Dad is doing a good job they should leave them be & not traumatize him any more. that be be downright cruelty

I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH THIS!!!!! :tearhair :rage :tearhair :rage

I'm sure they know best and are basing their decision on their knowledge of past nests...BUT

I just don't agree with them!!! Sorry...

NBG is on the blog...

Norfolk Botanical Garden:
DGIF consultanted with the partners and many experts about this situation. They received feedback about a variety of approaches and arrived at the decision to remove them.

One option discussed was to leave them and see if the father could continue to raise them alone. It is possible he could, but it is also very possible he could not continue to provide enough food as they grow and need a higher calorie count. There was a concern it would reach a point of no return and it would be difficult to remove the eaglets. It would present the problem of being too late to remove them for their survival. There is a reason it takes two parents to raise the eaglets.

Another option would be to try to foster them out to other nests. That would require finding three nests with eaglets at the exact right age. There is also the concern the foster parents may reject these eaglets.

DGIF has the legal responsibility for the welfare of these eaglets and has made the decision to remove them, deeming this is in the best interest of the eaglets

Since this cam has made this eagle family so famous, the decisions are taken very carefully to ensure the best option for the chicks.

One is looking down while the other two are busy with the fish.

This is just heartbreaking. Wish they could leave the eaglets, but maybe due to their age/development, they need to act quickly?

If they waited a few days, maybe it would be dangerous for the eaglets. Looking at their pictures from Friday vs. this morning, looks like they've lost most of their down. Personally, I'd rather have them do something now, vs. not to do anything at all and lose all 3 due to starvation, or a fall due to being scared off the nest.

Sorry, just my opinion, but I find I get mad/frustrated when they don't intervene and mad/frustrated when they do. Guess I can't have it both ways. Had to think about this with these 3. If they were younger, then I think they could afford to wait and see.

I'm so sorry for those of you who have followed this nest for so long. Mom was beautiful.

the three eaglets will be raised together at WCV. The intention is to release them (they are in good health) so human contact will be minimal.

I am jsut weighing in on this. I know they know best most times. but he is proving that he can provide so they should leave him at least one to feed.
they do not realize how traumatic this will be for dad.

I am afraid I do disagree with taking them all.

I hope someone can still talk to them to leave him one(the male).
anyone with any authority on here.

I know 3 is a stretch for him but they should leave him the male.

I know that falcons may be a bit different but in Spain last year when the mom collided with something they took out the 2 female falcon chicks and left dad the male . I watched every day and dad fed and fledged him successfully.

This is too hertbreaking

I cannot watch the removal. Just too sad. We have to trust the experts, but it sure makes a sad situation even sadder.

Jim, thank you for the most generous gift of your last picture of Mom. :girlluv:

skygirlblue, thank you for the beautiful banner tribute to Mom. :loveheart2:
