It's been reported that the younger eaglet died this morning in NC ... Derek & Savannah's nest. I don't know much more right now. :(

The eaglet’s first check-up. 3 weeks old. Weighed in at 2229g!

The baby was immediately returned to its nest after handling and the parents fed the baby multiple times throughout the afternoon. All is well!

Not sure if this is the correct way to post link. Not familiar yet.

We are hanging on to a glimmer of hope here. We had a pair of eagles but feared something happened to the first female. I say first because there is a reason to believe that she did die. Of course we do not know for sure. The female that has been coming now every morning does not appear to be the same Lucy that we were accustomed to. Her beak color mirrors that of Larry and she seems smaller than the first one. Also, her black feathers that cross over the white tail fan appear to be longer like Larry and that was not a characteristic of the first Lucy. Could this be a coincidence, yes I suppose. I just do not feel that it is the original female. She was gone for a solid week after basically just eating everything in sight for a week, including a rabbit the last morning that we saw her.

To see them you should watch early morning. They have been regulars and are fun to watch. Even though I have had a lot to do with this particular nest I am not a mod of any kind, just an interested person. I should say that I grew up on this road and my parents still live there so you might say I have a personal connection to this project.

It's great that you live so close and have a personal interest in this nest and hopefully will keep us informed as to what is happening in the area. I am sorry to hear that Lucy may have died, though.
