It's been reported on FB that one of the Minn Bound chicks has fallen from the nest. I'll post confirmation when I find some.

Edit to add;
Confirmed on the MinnBound Fb page. "We are very sad to report that the eaglet that fell out of the nest this afternoon did not survive the fall."

This description was posted by a cam watcher on Raptors Inc. FB. She witnessed the fall.
About 4:25-4:30 CST ..the chick named Kirby was sitting on carcass that Mom flung out and chick ended up outside the rails. Little one got tangled in the rail, tried to get free and back to nest for about 5 minutes, then went out of picture. Mom was there for about 2 minutes after the fall then flew in the direction of fall.

Oh damn thanks Mick this has been such a weird year I still say its all because of the weird weather parents didn't get a good start on the nests with the way its was warm so early, I know thats not it but i have to blame something :tissue:

It's been a hard one kitten and a change in weather can affect animals reproduction so you might as well blame it on that.

I didn't know which chick was Kirby. If anyone knows let me know so I can edit the calendar (I just indicated the younger one died on the calendar)

I think it was the younger one but I couldn't get anyone to answer me and there were too many people on the chat!!

Peggy from WOW videoed the whole thing .... and I post it only for record keeping purposes! It's not bad ... but yet it is. :( He just kind of slips off. :egg10:

Kirby was the younger eaglet. Hatched on 4/12. I was journaling this nest today and as Kirby was down in the rails there was a chat session going on with a 2nd grade class. I believe that Broadband had someone to notify and they confirmed the chick had not survived. This is getting tough...I'm off for a few days...I need to regroup.

Daytons Eagles update, this is great but it sure would have been better if they had done it before nesting started it doesn't seem to bother the nest tho which is wonderful
date April 27, 2012 - Dayton Power and Light crews began installing avian protection devices on the crossbars of the utility poles in the well field Thursday! The plastic devices, that resemble large, inverted Vs, are designed to discourage this year’s eaglets from perching on the utility poles. Landing on these poles draws the eaglets dangerously close to the electrical wires that the poles support. Hitting a wire with a wing could be disastrous and there is the real threat of electrocution posed by the transformers and wiring. The 2011 eaglet, Spirit, had a fatal encounter with one of these poles in July of last year.

Eastwood Eagle Watcher volunteers will be present throughout the installation process to monitor the eagles and to advise the crews in the event that Jim and Cindy become too agitated with the work.

Yesterday’s activity was being closely watched by the eagles but they showed no change from their normal behavior. Eventually the four poles nearest the nesting tree will have to be worked on but the eagles are accustomed to mowing activity and other Water Department crews in the area. We do expect that the adults may become mildly agitated for a short time as the devices are installed on these poles.

All three eaglets are doing fine and were often seen anxiously awaiting the delivery of fresh fish. The adults are leaving the eaglets alone in the nest for longer and longer times now. At one point yesterday Jim and Cindy flew into the nest within 30 seconds of each other and they were both carrying fish.JBW/EEW

Update on Carolina at the hack tower

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. –

Officials at the Carolina Raptor Center are set to open the hack tower doors for the growing eaglet this week.

Carolina, born in late February, will soon get to see her nesting space from a different angle. On Thursday, May 3, the doors will open allowing the curious eaglet to venture outside of the tower.

Officials say at first Carolina will likely not exit the tower door but notice the change in her space. Gradually she will venture outside of the hack tower space.

The now sprouting eaglet was born to parents Savannah and Derek at the beginning of the year.

Her sibling, the second egg in the nest, never hatched.

The hope in opening the doors to the hack tower is that Carolina will eventually fly away.

The history of eagle nesting at Carolina Raptor Center began in 2006, when Savannah and Derek laid and hatched two eggs, resulting in the release of eagles Len and Lola into the wild. Since that time, Letha (2007), Noah (2010) and Kinsey (2011) have been released back into their natural habitat. Tracking information still is available from Len, who has traveled up and down the East Coast and into Canada, and his sister, Lola, who appears to have nested in a large eagle colony in Alabama.

Wold River - Pics from Monday and Tuesday. This morning they had a bad storm that knocked out the PTZ cam. They are running on the back-up cam right now.

*Eaglet Update* We have been in contact with our eagle experts at the National Eagle Center and the Raptor Center. Together we are all monitoring this situation and working to figure out the best way to help the trapped eaglet. Please be patient and know that we are doing all that we can at this time.
