I don't think they are near egg-laying yet, they have been nestorizing for some time now. I don't see anything unusual to suggest eggs are imminent. JMO. If I'm wrong I'll eat my elf cap!

Oh no I didn't mean that they were going to lay one any time soon just that it might be earlier than the 17th, and that would be something to see you eat your elf hat :hahah I'd pay top dollar to see that

Thanks for the vid, KF, they had a LOOOONNNNNGGGG stay in the nest this evening and I captured all of it but way too long for me to edit before I had to run off to choir. I'll just leave it with your great video! (And I'm looking for some sprinkles for my hat, preferably chocolate.)

A juvie is at the nest again, not sure if it's the same one from a couple of weeks ago, but it is wreaking havoc with the crib rails.

That is the first time I have heard either one of the adults talk that juvie might still be around it looks like mom is trying to eat and scream at the same time

Here is this morning's juvie:

I believe it may have been the same one that came 16 days ago, but I welcome others' opinions. The lighting is very different, you have to look closely at the markings:

Hungry and looking for food. Its hard not to wonder if this is an offspring from this nest.

I would say that I think this is egg time but as soon as I say something they do the opposite
now I see she is laying back down and putting fluff around her if I came here and posted and missed something I'll kick myself in the ass

Mating up close and personal!

Really wonderful sequence of Dad bringing a fish, Mom fussing, Dad starting to eat, Mom stealing the fish, Dad stepping aside, then he jumped her, literally! And they snuggled afterward:

Edited down from 45 minutes to 13.

A different juvie visited the nest this morning. Developing plumage on head and tail and yellowing on beak and feet suggest it's maybe 2-3 years old.

The adults cackled at it a few times but never chased it away. This is all very curious to me. I know that when eggs are in the nest the parents will not allow any kind of intruder near the nest, but since they are so close to egg-laying (we've seen them mate in the nest) I would have thought they would be protecting it actively. It is also curious that this is at least the second juvie to land in the nest in the last month. I suppose since the nest is right on the Mississippi River where so many bald eagles congregate at this time of year, it isn't surprising that some of them might be drawn to an established nest.
