Thank you Coriena. That a great video. I always wondered what the pile of sticks looked like against the trunk. The male is always adjusting that area. I appreciate getting a look at it in your video. Thanks

Aha!!! I don't think I've seen that part of the nest either??? Very cool. . .what is it with dads, sticks, and trunks of trees...

Thanks, Coriena

Thank you eiguoc. With the addition of 4 volunteer camera panners (is that word?) the panning is almost non stop. What to choose to upload? You picked a good 19 minutes.

Here are a few screen caps.

I was watching Richmond chat when Dr Watts from CCB was answering questions last Friday. He said this is part of female dominance behavior. The male remains submissive throughout the activity.

Thanks Susan. Here is an example of the female dominance display that Dr Watts posted about at CCB Richmond cam during a chat Q&A. Dr Watts posted, "We will see evidence of this interaction throughout the nesting cycle. She will frequently reinforce her dominant position. The male was showing a submissive posture through that exchange"

This is a pic of Decorah Mom on top of Decorah Dad.

Mom: "I'm in charge, and don't you forget it!"

Dad: "Yes, dear."

It is interesting that we are seeing this at various nests this year, whereas I don't remember seeing it before. Although, it does remind me of Shepherdstown last year when the new male came around causing all that sad disturbance. Remember when the female jumped on him one time, and we thought she was fighting him off? He was submissive through the whole thing. Hmmmmm. :think

That's a good point Susan. I forgot about that. You are absolutely right!

She begins labor & softly vocalizing at 3:37 into the recording. Egg is laid at 7:24 into the recording. Egg is seen 13:50 into the recording. Her vocalizations throughout her labor are interesting.

You're welcome.

The male is losing his cool over the little birds that frequent the nest this morning, first morning of incubation.
