This Sooner Lake nest is typically one of the latest in the state to get eggs, and this year is no exception. We do not know the exact date of the start of incubation for this nest in 2012, but the first of the three eggs could hatch any time between now and about two weeks from now.

Three eggs in the 2012 Sooner Lake nest. The pair is using the same nest that was used in 2010, although they have added material to greatly improve the condition of the nest.

I am so sorry you had to witness that Patti be it part of nature or not

Here's a lovely tribute to Lil'Bit's life. There is footage at the end of the recycling but it is at dusk and quite dark; the video maker was sensitive to the seconds chosen to include.

Thanks Mick ... gonna watch that in a minute.

The Sooner Lake pair is back online ... they got the camera in the dead tree working. This is where they nested last year when the chicks fell out of the nest. The nest is still small but it look in better shape. Problem is ... they have 3 eggs. They weren't sure when they were laid but the first hatched today!

No actual visual of the chick, but the female has removed shell.

They grow up so fast. This morning they were exercising wings and generally annoying each other, pecking and poking back and forth:

Well .... I was right ... in a way .... oldest chick (we think) is 'missing'. But Marcia on WOW caught this late yesterday .... looks as if it was probably injured (or killed) accidentally by the adult.
