This morning the third eyass has graced us with their presence. So fitting for earth day. Shame they dont name them or id suggest Geo

Here is a video from youtube showing the three. Note that the elder siblings are having a beak to beak discussion as to who is tops on the pecking order just like eagles and other raptors

I was actually watching this nest today. Can't remember how I got to it now, and I didn't realize there were chicks, but I saw one adult with prey actually feeding the other adult that was on the chicks. Well I know about bringing in prey, but feeding too?

Looks like they have plenty of prey in there. The mother, I think, started feeding but only one seemed interested at first.

I was down at the Franklin Institute this morning to view the nest. The Fromel was sitting up off her eyasses so i was able to get a better view

Image

When I arrived, i did see the Tiercel flying across the Vine St Expressway but I lost him in the trees across from the FI

Shortly later, mom appeared

dad was the first to leave as she soared across the canyon known as the vine street expressway to the trees across from the FI

where he roosted in a tree within eye of the nest

The eyasses are still rather shy and yet to emerge from above the nest bed but I should be returning there next on may 21 before another dental appointment

Managed to get to the Institute earlier than i had anticipated and only have three shots worth sharing. The tripod i had crapped out on me so i had to shoot hand held

I think eyass 3 was sacked out in the nest since i saw only two up and showing off.
Image

Just since my last visit their tail feathers and wing feathers are becomming really visible now. I noted too that one of the eyasses is starting to get the lighter brown coloring on the breast
Image

Image

Since I had alot of time to kill before baseball this evening, i did go and splurge on a fancy sturdier tripod and ball head for the tripod as the store was on the way.

George - Thanks for keeping an eye on this nest and taking all the beautiful pictures you've been posting. They're really gorgeous!

Well let me start with wishing everyone a happy Memorial Day Weekend with this shot of mom i got this am
Image

She was being annoyed by a pesky mocking bird atop her flag pole perch but i wasnt fast enough on the shutter release

Image

This am one was onto the window ledge but i think theyve all been there

Image

Two eyasses getting more color each day
Image

Mom and dad away from the kids on another window ledge
Image

Mom and dad departing
Image

Image

Again to wish all a happy Memorial Day , dad is slightly delusional he too wants to become an eagle

Here is a hawk update from the franklin Institute. As you can see the three eyasses are getting their juvie feathers and have been out of the nest box exploring the ledge. Other Hawkaholics think they may fledge early next week.

When i shot all three on the ledge this morning, one to me seemed much larger than the other two. So, if i dont need my eyeballs checked i suspect we have two tiercels and one fromel

The one on the left to me looks larger than the other two on the right in this shot

Well according to the hawkwatch blog the RTH expert john blackman says that the three eyasses are perhaps a couple days away from fledging. According to him the head feathers are not fully unsheathed and are still bloody as with some of the flight feathers of their wings.

I was there this am and they were flapping up a storm and getting some air time too
