Pearl1 - Great catch of the Harculo kestels off the eggs! No, I didn't know there were 6 eggs there - I only had 4 eggs listed on the nesting calendar. The last 2 must have been laid on 4/28 and 4/30.

It looks like the Swiss (Rhine) kestrels finally laid their first egg!

KF - Forgot to thank you for spotting the first chick at Aston! With the chicks starting to hatch, mom and dad kestrel should be off the eggs/chicks more so we can see them better.

Update: Speaking of seeing them better, a parent just got up to stretch for a minute and I was able to catch the sleepy chick using the other eggs as a pillow.

Hello everybody! :bonnet: I'm from Belarus, Brest city I am a member of APB (BirdLife in Belarus) and a great Kestrel-lover. I noticed by accident that you are looking our Kestrel's cam on http://www.birdwatch.by and very happy of this:) I want to tell you a bit about our Kestrels!

Common Kestrel is rather rare bird in Belarus, total number is about 1500 pairs inhabiting the country. However there is many kestrels in our city - Brest. This is the city on the very bodred with Poland. We have about 50 breeding pairs every year (population of Brest is about 300 000 people). Here Kestrels breeds in decorative niches of dwelling houses (usually 10-12-floored). The nest you can observe on our site is similar to those, and I have it directly outside of my window) Few photos:

My home:) Kestrels breeds here too but the nest with the cam is in the next building at this photo.

Image

From my window) Building with the nest with the cam inside; it is situated in the very left niche (left arrow). By the way, in 2008 there were three (!) kestrel nests in all this "arrowed" niches! In that year there is two - in the left and in the right niches.

The cam can be seen)

The male:)

Also we have ringed the chiks from here in past few years - they are beautiful)
Here you can find some videos from the nest: http://birdwatch.by/node/1525 Also it can be found among the comments on the page: http://www.birdwatch.by/pustalga_brest

Greetings from Belarus! :waveht:

:welcome Welcome to the forum, Feather! It's so great to have someone here from Belarus who loves kestrels and who has a great view of the kestrels across the way from your building.

We just recently discovered these cute kestrels from Belarus, and I was intrigued by the nest location with the two round openings. I'm so glad you included pictures of the buildings, especially the one where the kestrels nests are.

It's fun to watch your kestrels, especially since we can view them at night. I'm looking forward to seeing the chicks arrive and grow up because kestrels are one of my favorite birds!

Thanks again for the pictures and information you provided...and thanks so much for joining us here!

Oh, you are so friendly:) :loveshow: It is very pleasant for me too - to communicate with people which lives so far away but loves kestrel from Europe as well! Thank you for the welcome! :hearts:

The chicks should begin hatching soon. The first egg was laid 17 of April but female started incubating the clutch strongly only about 25 of April, so the little "kestrelings" should be awaited near 20 of May. Looking forward :)
The eggs was laid by the following shcedule:
1st - 17 April
2nd - 19 April
3rd - 21 April
4th - 23 April
5th - 25 of April
And only after the last egg female started incubating. That's how! =)

P.S.: We have 2 Am at the moment, and you?)
