Is this a Kestrel or a pigeon?

Oh no! That's really bad news if that's a pigeon and an egg in the Beleef De Lente kestrel nest. I'd hate to see a replay of last year when the cute kestrels couldn't nest there because of the pigeons.

A new camera is operational, NestCam. This camera is aimed at a Peregrine falcons nesting box, which currently houses a couple of Kestrels.
This hive is in Helmond, The Netherlands.

ruud - Thanks for the information and link for the new kestrel cam in Helmond, The Netherlands. I just added this cam to our list of kestrel cams here . . .

And here's a picture from 10 minutes ago (both kestrels were there, but I only managed to catch the male in my screen capture).

Bad news for the poor pigeons that took over the Kestrel box at Beleef de Lente...those black birds (that I can never remember the name of) came in and destroyed the eggs...Same thing they did 2 years ago at Poland kestrel nest...this happened 3/19...Pigeons are gone...

L'histoire se répète, indeed skygirlblue. Now let's hope that in the end (as last year) the Kestrels will nest and that both partners will be able to care for the nestlings (male disappeared just before 5th egg was laid :-( ).
A male kestrel has been seen visiting these past days, but as of yet no female ...

Oh and these black birds are Jackdaws.
Just a reminder, all the Beleef de Lente logbook entries are translated here:
and most clip titles are, as well.
