Only two dead chicks left in the box, maybe one of the parents came back and ate the others.
Somehow that is a comforting thought; they took their children back and by eating them, the parent(s) can survive and may have another nest, next year.

Thanks Catwoman for clarifying. You know bunches more than I do, so appreciate any info you can give me. This was my first season of barn owl (and others) watching and have just loved it! Have a good week!
