I am watching DoxieMom's video now and Mei Xiang acts like she doesn't know what to do. I heard they turned the cam off, but it is back on this morning. Wonder if the second cubbie is still out. Its crying was making me nervous... :loveshow:

How sweet to hear that there are twins here. I'll have to start checking in on the pandas from now on.

Just getting home and playing catch up!! This is so exciting...When I heard "twins" on the news early this morning I was so shocked!!!!

I haven't looked at the press conference yet, but I am sure they will have lots of help!! I think when Lun Lun had her twins here in Atlanta, China sent an expert to help!!

Update...

Our giant panda cubs are doing well but the panda team had a challenging night. When they tried to swap the cubs at 11p.m., Mei Xiang would not set down the cub she had in her possession. Consequently, the panda team cared for the smaller cub throughout the night until 7:05 a.m. when they successfully swapped the cubs. The panda team supplemented the smaller cub with formula by bottle feeding. They were concerned that the smaller cub was not getting enough volume so they moved to tube feeding which went well and quickly. Our goal is for each cub to spend an equal amount of time with their mother. As we’ve stated, the newborn cubs are vulnerable and this first week is incredibly important and the risk remains high. Our team is doing great work around the clock and we’ll continue to keep you posted.

After I read the updates, I decided to take a walk down memory lane..LOL

Just finished reading the first 100 days blog entries for the Atlanta panda twins...whew...hard to believe they turned 2 years old in July!!!

I just read on the Zoo Atlanta FB page that Lun Lun and Mei Xiang are half-sisters (same Mom) I guess that makes Mei Huan/Mei Lun and the new "twins" cousins?

I think its great that Zoo Atlanta has sent somebody to help. They were so fortunate to have a panda keeper from China for almost 4 months. I had forgotten Deng's (I think that was his name.. :girlcrazy:

) back story. He arrived the day the cubs were born and spent the first month sleeping on a cot next to the bars of Lun Lun's den...he was an expert on rearing twins. After reading back through the blog, they initially had trouble with the swap with Lun Lun, but they knew she had a weakness...sugarcane. That was the bribe!! Hold up the sugarcane, then reach in, exchange the sugarcane for the cub, let her finish the sugarcane, then hand her the 2nd cub. They even posted a vid of Deng doing that...fascinating!!

Hopefully they will find Mei Xiang's weakness and try the same thing!!

I am sure they will find Mei Xiang's guilty pleasure to make the switch easier. Thank you for the walk down Lun Lun memory lane!
