Did you know that L & L were almost lunch today? A neighbor dog came over and about got Lucy! I have video but only to share with the owner how serious this is. You can access archive if you want to watch. It was around 1:17. I am uploading video now of her visit today. It is edited of course otherwise it would be long. I will not be posting images or video to FB out of respect. I have not made contact with the owner of the dog yet.

OMG that is terrible I sure hope the owner will do something about the dog (keeping it on a lease or something responsible at the least) I'm so glad it didn't get her OMG is all I keep saying to myself.

Kitten Lucy looked good when she came to the nest for those 40+ minutes. She is quite the miracle. Talon so glad you posted the video here, too. Kelli Rooney posted one on E4K facebook page also.

In the last few days the moderators at Eagles4Kids received thank you notes for volunteering their time to moderate the ustream chat. It was very touching to say the least. They sent us E4k bracelets and a silver wing bracelet as well as a picture of the e's we so love. Talon we thank you for helping these students learn to give and receive. The letter is precious.

OH NO, Talon!!! I cannot believe that....so, you know the owner of the dog? Poor L & L. . they don't need this right now!!!

Thanks so much for posting the video. . she's looking good..I do hope her left foot is holding up ok!!! She's strong girl!!

I communicated with two dog owners last night. Both dogs have been seen in the feeding area. I let them both know what happened even though it was just one dog yesterday. I will be moving her food to a wider part of the field. This way any eagle will have enough time to see or hear a predator coming. This should not be a problem again. I take partial responsibility for this taking place yesterday. It was easy for me to get in and out with very little intrusion, but ended up putting them in harms way. She felt comfortable there, but I didn't see this coming. Problem will BE SOLVED.

Here's Lucy before I had a chance to move her food after school. It wasn't long and then she flew away. I moved her food closer to the nest for better surveillance, and more importantly it is a safer place. This spot is wide open which will allow her or Larry to see a predator coming easily. It's not in the exact spot I wanted but the contour of the field which is difficult to see from the cam slopes away sharply and I didn't want them blind from that area jeopardizing their safety.

Talon, you are just the best!!! You are definitely her guardian angel!! Can't believe she sat there so long...and you've got quite the zoom there!!!

It looks like from the brief glance we got at that right foot, that some of the skin is sloughing off maybe? Have you been able to get a good look at her left foot?

I was hoping for a better look at both feet today when I got the video. Sadly she didn't allow me to get a good looksey. :) The left has been a day to day thing. Some days it looks more swollen than others. Yesterday when she flew in the left (uninjured foot) looked fairly good I thought. It just depends how much perching she does. The right is very dark yet holding together. I was thinking she would have lost at least the talons by now. I do have an image of the back of it and the back toe is off. This is actually a good thing in her case as it was under her when she walked and like a rock. With it gone at least she is somewhat more comfortable.

Surprisingly she did not mind my intrusion too much as by the time I got home she was already on her food on the food in the new spot. :hapdance:

Thanks Talon!!! I know you're always trying to get a good look at her feet...The test now is how well that left foot holds up under her weight. I'm hoping enough of her right foot will be left to help distribute her weight more evenly...hopefully, she's sitting back on her eagle elbows as much as she can to rest that left foot!!! I would imagine perching for long periods could be tiring for her!!!

Great video, Mick. . .so many more closeups to see than my pics (yes, I couldn't choose)...

One more vid...a few minutes before Lucy left the nest. If you listen carefully, you can hear Larry talking back..maybe he was on the perching branch..who knows..

Lucy landing about 7:30, nest time. It was nice to see her picking up a few things in the nest.

Larry Follows

Feet pictures from the video...I was trying to get a look at the left foot. It appears the back toe is still very swollen, but that is only an assumption on my part. That back toe is really needed for her to perch!! Pics aren't great..sorry.
