Our cam technician is replacing a large set of cables over the next few days to ensure we eliminate the static issue that was affecting both cams. We did find some water intrusion in a few of the cables. We might be up and down while

We've opened the 2012-2013 Eagle Cam Web Log, which includes a video of our eagle family. And we'll soon open the new Eagle Cam gallery. Thanks to those sending in their shots.

We're getting some additional PC help this week that will hopefully bring progress on the cam image. We'll keep you posted.

I was down at Blackwater yesterday. Shortly after sunrise several bald eagles were attending a deer roadkill in a field of new wheat on Greenbrier road, about five or six miles east of the bald eagle webcam nest. By 9:00 pm an adult golden eagle had arrived and was making three remaining bald eagles wait their turns. When the golden eagle flew into the trees 14 minutes later her crop stuck forward under her head like the keel of a boat.

I think that this golden eagle has hunted waterfowl and squirrels in past winters in the vicinity of the wildlife drive, in which case she is acquainted with the bald eagle pair and their nest. Golden eagles insist on priority where food is concerned but respect the boundaries bald eagles set up around their nest areas. (Sometimes the bald eagles have to give young golden eagles a lesson or two on this point).

In another two or three weeks the golden eagle will be headed back to her summer range somewhere in Labrador or Quebec.

We're making progress on improving the cam image. We're still dropping some images on the upload,
but we're trying to fix the issue.
Hatching of the 1st egg could potentially start before the end of the weekend.
