I would like to report another GHO – another “balcony owl”. This time in Victoria, B.C., on Vancouver Island. The names of the birds are: the female – Oullette, the male – Ollie. The cameras were installed only very recently.
Link to the cameras:

eggs laid: around January 10 (link to Feb 7 photo of eggs taken through window)
cams on: February 13
eggs hatched: around February 14

Somebody reports on the Forum:
Ollie, the dad drops off food a few times a day. Each morning there is a nice rat for breakfast.
Oullette, the mom, stays at the nest and gets served by her husband. Mom will leave the nest once a day for a five minute stretch break around 5:30- 6:00 pm each day.

There are reports that out of the three owlets that hatched on the 13th and 14th of February, one did not make it. But nobody (HFW Forum) seems to be certain. I cannot, unfortunately, watch the live cameras for some technical reasons. But here is the latest video

and the link to the Hancock Wildlife Foundation Forum:

Nest is situated in an abandoned quarry in the east of the country, close to the German border.
Last year the male was found dead when there were still two young in the nest. Momma Owl managed to bring them up on her own and they fledged successfully.
Later that year a new male came into the territory and the female accepted him as her new mate. And yesterday the first egg was laid.

Mr. Tiger left to give us a closeup. Didn't see any pips but she's talking to them.

Mrs. Tiger tonight. These GHO sure are weather ready. Mr. brought food to the box with an exchange but she chose to eat elsewhere.

Pics of the eggs. They do look somewhat different tonight.

Closeups look like something is happening.
And here's a good one for you Matrix, someone is talking about the ambient temp in nest boxes, why I haven't heard that since last year at the Canton nest. Let's see if you add 5 degrees to the ambient temp, you will know the temp in the nest. But my memory isn't that good. :laugh :laugh2
