Indy & Franklin at AEF update:

From AEF Re: Indy and Frank . . .
3-31-14: Note from Al Cecere:
"I am writing this note to inform all our wonderful chatters about the origin of the eggs that are currently hatching inside the Independence and Franklin nest.
The three real eggs that we recently placed inside this nest were actually laid by two of our off-park breeding pairs, and not I & F. Two eggs came from one nest, and one egg came from another. They were pulled from the nests they originally came from just as soon as they were laid and placed inside our incubators for daily monitoring by our staff.
The two pairs "recycled" or laid a "second clutch" of eggs, which they are currently incubating naturally. On the day we removed Indy's and Franklin's three real eggs from their nest (and replaced them with wooden eggs), we immediately candled those eggs (placed them under a bright light) to determine if they were actually fertile. After doing so that day, we highly suspected that none of the three eggs they laid were fertile (but infertile). We have no idea why, but we placed them inside our incubators anyway to make sure they could prove us wrong.
After they were incubated nearly 35 days, we candled them one final time to again check on the fertility of the eggs. They were determined to not be fertile (but they still sit in our incubators until about 45 days when they will be removed).
Before we placed the 3 real adopted eggs inside Indy's and Franklin's nest to replace the wooden eggs (that were placed in the nest so we could work on eagle cams and repair the nest which had somehow seriously separated from the tree it was attached to), we selected 3 real eggs from the other two pairs that we determined were very likely fertile.
These are the eggs that are hatching and pipping at this moment in time inside Indy's and Franklin's nest. Thank you for your understanding and support."
Respectfully,
Al Cecere

Great pics!!!

It bothers me how often I see the RF baby uncovered. Yesterday (or was it the day before), it was raining (lightly) and the poor thing was alone...good grief. I could tell it was getting damp.

I'm right there with you MA. and that little bugger is already going all over that nest. Heck it scared the poo out of a lot yesterday the way it was so close to the edge of the nest.

I really worry here the nest just doesn't seem big enough. The Eaglets lay in the food remains. I hope they don't get some stupid infection or something of that sort.
M & D try to move prey out of the way, but there isn't to many places to put them beside over the side of the nest.
