Dawn - I havent yet seen the kids perch.
That should be soon.

Savannah's a VERY conciencious mother.
She is always on guard.
Overnite I see her perched on the box with Newman on a branch on a tree above.

( I am not getting notifications in my email, but at least I can post. )

It's been a difficult couple of days at Great Spirit Bluff. Falcon Savanna was attacked and likely killed by an owl on the morning of June 12. While we waited on tenterhooks for Newman to return, John looked for Savanna and we began talking about what to do if Newman was gone too. The little falcons turned 37 days old today and are just days - if that - from fledgling. It would be difficult to feed them without bumping them from the box, although we would have had to consider it if Newman didn't return. Fortunately, he did! Newman has been busy provisioning Thomas, Alice, Kami. and Jayce, and guarding the box from owls or anything else that catches his eye.
Removing the young is not an option with Newman there, but he's doing his very best to feed and protect he and Savanna's young. We hope her bravery and fierceness at the end keeps the owl away for a few more days.
I'm not posting the final video - it's just heartbreaking - but here's a look at Newman and his family. It's not easy to keep fledgling falcons fed, but Newman is doing a wonderful job.

I would never watch a video lik e that but what a brave mother.
what a sad year we have had at so many sites.
Great horned owls are an adults peregrines predator in nature ,
I sure hope Newman can do this. let Savannah's spirit guide them, as Harriet did at SWFE

June 14 I saw 2 of the juvies OUTside the box on the side perchs.
They are too crowded - all 4 in the box.
They're out flapping at dawn

No there isn't one missing--he's just well hidden!

I am really pulling fro them here, as we all are.

Two are ready to fledge.
I wonder if one fledged yesterday.
He looked like he was aiming to make his Leap of Faith.

7 am B-59 Thomas flew up on top of cam - from there he flew to the roof - then back on cam where Savvy loved to perch.

I just read about Mama Savannah.
I am surprised. She was a great Mom!
I am surprised owl'd take adult - not one of the kids.
