They don't know what happened to it ... just not strong enough I guess. They noticed it hadn't moved since yesterday.

Wow, that's terrible! I don't remember her losing hatchlings before. Usually they are on my computer all day. I have photos of the two of them from Monday :(

I noticed while watching Phoebe and Sassy the other day, that on the live blog, someone mentioned that the body of Storm was still in the nest. :o Why wouldnt Phoebe remove it? Kind of sad for Sassy to share the nest with her dead brother alongside her, what must she think? :?: I am kind of bewildered that mom would leave it there. Any comments or info on this topic re hummingbirds would be appreciated.

That's a good question, leelee...I have no clue....unless mom is physically unable to remove storm...

Some concerns for Sassy...

Great pics, obxbarb....could she have mites? Remember how worried we were about the cobb kids and losing their feathers?

Its so weird...she just seems slow to develop. She's been pretty active when I'm watching. Joe is in touch with the rehabber, so they should know if something is wrong. I'm sure they are among the many thousand Phoebe fans :)

An update from Phoebe's facebook page:

Phoebe Allens wants to thank everyone for their support & good wishes. We spoke with a couple experts in hummingbird rescue from LA and Orange County. They both strongly believe it is better to leave Sassy with her mother for now, and will step in when needed. One theory is that the recent storms reduced the supply of the insects (w...e now have a rotting banana in the yard - organic!).
