In regards to both cams being down at Charlo recently:
ORI Lauren Mod • 2 hours ago Hi All,
This is a similar update to what I posted on the goose nest cam, but wanted to add a bit more details about the Osprey cam:
I know you're all anxiously awaiting for the Osprey and the goose nest cam to be turned back on, and we are too! This feels like the absolute WORST time possible for there to be technical issues, so of course this is when there would be issues... we feel your frustration and disappointment, and feel similarly!
I have talked with both Denver and Explore, and it turns out that there is an issue with the radio transmitter for the goose cam, and the earliest we can get someone out to try to fix it is tomorrow evening. Not sure what caused the issue, if it could be related to the recent bad weather and winds or not, but I imagine we'll learn more once the Explore tech is able to get out and get it fixed. It is also a bit unclear to me how the two cams are connected, but I think they are-- I'm trying to get some clarification around that. I'm not a tech person, and wasn't involved (or present) when any of the cams were set up, so I have no idea how any of the technical side of things works.
I'll keep you all posted as soon as I hear any updates! Fingers crossed that the issue is a relatively simple fix and we can get the cams back up and running ASAP.
Huge thanks to everyone at Explore for all of the hard work, time, and energy they put into keeping these cams in working order! It's not easy to maintain and stream all of these different cams all over the world, and we so appreciate the effort that goes into allowing us to share these birds in our part of Montana with all of you viewers. Thanks Explore!
I'm also planning to go out myself to near the cams later this afternoon so I can get an idea of what's happening and share some observations. Unfortunately, due to the height and location of the platform with the goose nest, I probably won't be able to see into the nest to get a direct look at the eggs. But, I will report back with any observations I'm able to make for both platforms!
In the meantime, it is possible to hear Charlotte from the Great Horned Owl cam, as the nest is somewhat close to the Osprey platform... it's not nearly as satisfying as being able to see on the cam, but at least we can try to keep tabs on the osprey that way.
Thank you all for your patience as we try to get these cams back up and running! We appreciate having so many dedicated and caring viewers who are so invested in these birds- thank you all for being here with us!
