:eggthumb: All 4 cams are live for SWFL! The season does not officially begin until 10/1/21. I did see Harriet and M15 on cam 2 this afternoon perched on the nest tree.

:15heartbeat: Waiting on VWS official update on California Condor #663 Junipero, so in the meantime you are stuck with mine as seen on 9/29/30 evening:

Junipero visited the Big Sur Sanctuary just before dark on 9/29/21 and could be seen attempting to ward off another condor from the carcass. He also seemed to eat maybe a little as he stuck his whole head within the carcass. His talons/distal foot area remain curled/drawn, but in this lighting at no time did the left foot look as black as previous and possibly not as swollen in areas. There were not any great close up views. At times the coloring looked almost the same as the other foot and other times it looked obviously darker. When he stood above the water hole and just before he turned to fly off, you could see an obvious deformity/angulation at the ankle joint that looks to be from a possible fracture. Was hoping to see if they mentioned him at their zoom chat on the afternoon of 9/30/21, but so far, I have not seen a link.

:eggthumb: Edit to add at 3:10 am on 10/1/21: I was able to find the Zoom Chat from VWS on 9/30/21. Here are some things I was able to pull from it, then following is the zoom chat with the timeframe noted when they give the update on Junipero within the chat and also his most recent visit from the 29th. The initial pic they show is a previous one when his injury was first noted, the new stuff starts with a very short video of his flyoff from the water hole that shows the angulation from the fracture. Some generalizations of what was said:

The necropsy is not back on #438 his mate that he lost earlier this season, but they suspect it was from lead poisoning. When they are in a position to check on his whereabouts per radio signal, they continue to find him near the nest area and this bodes well for his chick that he is raising alone and now with the hardship of his severe injury. After many years of working with/observing the condors the speaker said, his drive to feed his chick is no different than humans. They will die trying to keep their chicks alive. He mentioned that it was good that Junipero came in late to feed this last time as the more dominant birds are there earlier in the day. Pinnacles is still on standby to capture Junipero if he comes their way. They will not be able to tell how he was possibly injured unless he is captured. It could be an injury from a natural predator, collision with a manmade object, gunshot wound, etc. They have had a condor with a fractured back heal on its own, albeit with a disability, but able to continue with its life. He believes Junipero is the toughest condor he has seen.

Timeframe for Junipero update starts at the 27:53 and ends at 33:53 within the zoom chat.
