Second Great Horned Owl Egg in SavannahIt's not clear exactly when it was laid, but soon after darkness it became clear that the owl had laid a second egg. Incubation takes an average of 33 days, so we can expect to see owlets around the start of February.

In this video you can see how Ruby feels threatened by a dog walking by and goes into concealment posture. She makes herself very tall and skinny by compacting her feathers and raising her ear-tufts. In this posture owls try to keep one wing facing what’s scaring them rather than their front, and you can see Ruby do exactly that.

Almost 11 months old Ruby and Rupert the Great Horned Owls are part of a vocal study on their species.
