Female: Erika, 2021 Hatch from NIPSCO Bailly, Indiana b/blu K/63:
male: unbanded

Good question. I don't know why it hasn't been turned on. This happens almost every year..and they already have egg (s) in the box...

I got some sad news in a reply to my inquiry about the falcon nest from the IT Director of Wood County,Ohio.
“Thank you for reaching out regarding the camera. It’s not widely known, but the female that provided so many offspring over the 10+ years was found deceased last month. So far, the nest has been idle, so we’re not sure if we’ll be lucky enough to have new tenants this year.
On a positive note, I’m upgrading the old camera with a newer camera that will provide an audio feed. So fingers crossed that we have a couple that will continue to utilize the nest for years to come.
I’ll be sure to let you know if/when we have eggs this year.

Last year’s female had not been there that long, had she? I’m going to reply urging him to turn on the cam because the male is probably courting a new female already….It is exciting they have a new cam.

OH My gosh! The cam is on!!! If anyone feels like sending a note of thanks to Mr. Hendricks, his email is [email protected] PS I can see a falcon probably out on a perch on the right side! AND Mr Hendricks says the cam with audio has been ordered, and they may receive it as early as next week!

If you would like to post an update on the deceased falcon, it was banded. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) stopped banding our chicks after the first few years because the species has flourished quite well (at least in Ohio). It's our assumption that the banded falcon may have been the original female that prompted the building of the nest about 14 years ago. Her male partner(s) didn’t have any bands on them. Over the last 5 years you could tell that age was becoming a factor as her eggs were becoming fewer with some not hatching at all.

Only ODNR knows for sure if she was the original tenant as they would have a record of the bands that were recorded back in 2009/2010 and the bands that were retrieved on the deceased falcon in the last couple of weeks.
I’d like to think she was…

I had an opportunity to ask about the deceased female and she was named “Ricky” and she hatched in Michigan in 2020.

Just assumed no bands was female but this morning, big banded at left corner and a unbanded one right now at mid back talking.
