Wow Kim! Thanks for sharing. That film should be in a documentary somewhere. The photography is amazing. I've never seen footage of falcons like that before.

Sorry I'm so late checking this post, but this is truly one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen and is exactly why I love falcons. Thanks so much.

Sorry haven't any pic  just news of Felix&Aisha from a friend living nearby, in the Bologna Fiera District. The pair is of course in courtship behavior and, as you know, for several years Aisha is the Italian falcon lady laying the first egg when the time will come. :pepper

Who are the falcons my friend Maria is watching almos every day??

Bad news from Bologna Fiera District.
At the end of the past Summer/September 2 adult falcons were found dead in the tall building around the tower. Being both the corpses in very bad conditions, Paolo Taranto (Raptorbiol) couldn't be absolutely sure they were Felix and Aisha, but he thinks it's likely. They both were killed by a desease: Trichomonas and Serratospiculus.
When Paolo went to see the nest, didn't see any falcon around, but a small scrape was there and he doesn't think it was made by pigeons.
Anyway Maria (who lives nearby) saw a pair all the Winter long.
We can just wait and see.
Paolo will keep us updated.
Hope so also cause it's pretty unfair to be told in January about things happened in Summer.
So sad watching at the video of Felix&Aisha now..

Very sad news, Kim. :( But I'm glad to hear that there are falcons around, even if they're probably not Felix and Aisha. Please keep us updated when there is any more news.

That is just too sad, Kim...and you're just now finding out? I am glad that they were found together...but those diseases are not kind...just so sad...

As wonderful as the 2009 season was, we really lost some of our favorites....:sigh :sosad2

We all were told yesterday on the forum.
Anyway I had to tell the news as it is.. Nobody can be sure about the 2 dead falcons' ID.
Just the time and the cams working can tell us about the pair flying around all the Winter.
It could be possible at least one of them could be Felix or Aisha...
And we have to feel lucky even a new pair is nesting there.
Those deseases are worrying me..

Yes, we lost too many of our fav and that's hard to accept this is nature's normal way.
:sigh

Those diseases are worrying me, too, Kim. I don't know what could be done other than treating the pigeons & that doesn't seem to be practical...
:(

Ya know...the few things I've read on Trich imply that adult birds, though not immune, tend to be able to fend it off...its the little ones that succumb to this painful death...I too worry about these diseases...I don't think treating the pigeon population is realistic...apparently they are carriers, but aren't affected...I would also question the health of the adult birds before contracting the diseases...it makes me wonder about environmental conditions in urban areas...I know they aren't great here in Atlanta!!!

I'm very puzzled too about the Trich, know the same, generally only the little ones/young succumb and I'm sure somewhere in the US they are vaccinated at the banding. Yes, pigeons are carriers of this and other deseases, but the population here is huge, a true pest, impossible to control.. and of course they are the main PFs' prey.

Anyway the situation in Bologna is still very confused.

I don't think adults die very often of trich, but it does make me wonder....It seems to be fairly common among falcons. So sad, and I hope its not true. Its good to hear there is a pair around though.

Kim, I have not monitored this nest in the past but after watching the video by Mr. Taranto, I am hooked. It was AWESOME! But I'm so sad, too, upon learning of the deaths of two adult falcons near this nest. Let's hope no more falcons become ill in Bologna!
