Thanks for the video, Arjen! Gee, I didn't think they would do any work on the cam when nesting was in progress--especially when chicks are there! Much as I love watching these babies, I hate to see them as scared as they were...I was wondering where the parents were while this was going on, but they must have timed this for when the parents weren't near.

That was different what were they doing with the nest it looked like they might have picked up feathers or something so glad to see the parents return. They didn't seem to be bothered to much just scared. Anyone know why they did it?

Warbler had said in an earlier post that one of the chicks messed up the other cam by a poop shot.

Gosh...what an interesting video...and I too, wonder why they did what they did...but it made for some great pictures...but how in the world do they get them when its time for banding...doesn't look like much room there...especially to the edge of the nest!! YIKES!!! I know how nervous we get when they go on the ledge at Harrisburg..but that's a large ledge!!!

Thanks Arjen...you are the master of video...how many cams do you have running at the same time!!!

Three of Appio and Vergine's chicks were ringed yesterday, taking advantage of a change made to the cam; the fourth one will be ringed later as he's too small at present (he's only just over a week old). There are pictures of the ringing at:

http://www.birdcam.it/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4786

Details of the chicks can be found at:

The most recent pics added to the thread on the ringing give a very clear idea of the context of the nest. There are 368 steps in the tower and it's very narrow - the steps wind round a hollow centre. Passera told me this morning that the photos had to be taken one person at a time because there isn't enough room to stand together and take pics
In a post this morning, Giac has explained that he also decided to go ahead with the ringing, although the chicks are still very young, because he was afraid that, being more mobile, they could have fallen off the edge of the nest as they panicked at seeing the humans ...

Thanks for the great updates Warbler. These chicks are growing so fast! It does happen that chicks get scared during banding on jump, so sometimes its much better to do it early.

Oh my word, look at this nice ledge for them to practice on. And look like a park or ballfield down there.

The chicks are now 4 weeks old or nearly 4 weeks old so they'll be starting to go walkabout. I immagine space is getting tight in the nest, particularly when they start flapping their wings! :?
