Those pictures were perfect! It seems like a pretty quiet, laid back process there. The chicks are adorable! Is Ario much bigger than Alice?

I don't know what the relative sizes of Aria and Alice are; I'll try to find out and let you know. Aria is almost certainly older than Alice although I think that we don't have precise info on either of them.

Here's a link to some more photos of the ringing of the Aria and Vento's chicks last week. As you can see, it was quite warm (well above seasonal average, I think).

Enjoy them!

I've got some more info on the different sizes of the chicks at ringing. Aloha and Falcao's chicks were ringed today (see the post in that thread) and they're very well-sized.

We think this is probably due to their diet. Inner city chicks are fed a lot of pigeon with other birds as variants. For Aria and Vento this means swifts, parrots and we saw a golden oriole a couple of weeks ago, as well as other unidentified species. A couple of years ago, a parrot was also brought to Alice and Virgilio's nest. The suburban birds have a lot of starlings in their diet as well as the usual variety of other species, but not as many pigeons. All seem to be doing very well though and Appio and Vergine's chicks are now almost as big as their parents

Poor things they continue to get wet - it's been pouring with rain most of the day in Rome. However, they're growing rapidly and begin to look like juvenile peregrines :thumbup

Aria and Vento's chicks are also going walkabout now. They're exploring all the ledge near the nest and so we often have an empty nest. There are plenty of wing exercises but they're still a little while from fledging, thank goodness

Thanks for the updates Warbler. Also, thanks for the info on the diets causing differences in size. Very interesting! I'll have to share that with my biologists.

Aria and Vento are back! :leafwave:

The cam is back on-line so we'll be able to watch the nest through the winter and see if they are regular visitors

Huge flocks of starlings circulate in the skies at this time of year and so the falcons can "make hay while the sun shines" :carveturk:
