Hi,
we do not really know how many peregrines are in Italy because we can't follow up the steady increase of this species of the last few decades!
In 2000 the population was estimated to be about 900 pairs, but since then at least in some area (like Latium, the Region of Rome) the population increased by two or three.. so let's say that between 1500-2000 pairs is probably a safe estimation. Italy is about 300.000sqkm, something like Arizona (thanks wikipedia)... In Rome there are at least 6 pairs, probably 7.

Sorry about misspelling your name Carlo :? That is an unbelievable number of falcons for a relatively small country!!! I had no idea you had so many! We have 20 nesting pairs in all of Virginia. You must have a really nice habitat for falcons. What an incredible success story!!

no problem for the name, I'm used to ...
well, less pesticides and you will see that your peregrine population will grow as ours!

bye
Carlo

Lets hope so. We seem to be more limited by too few nesting locations at the moment, and not enough single males. Want to share?

She also has 4 eggs. The first chick in Rome should hatch here in just over 2 weeks time.

We're expecting Appio and Vergine's chicks to hatch any day ... and we've got computer problems :tearhair . It's worked perfectly for a month and now, at a critical moment, it's playing up. Our technical wiz Carlo is going to the site tomorrow to replace the computer. Let's hope that, if there's been a hatch, it's only of one chick... I'll keep you posted!
