Malteurop, Milwaukee, WI (formerly Froedtert Malt Complex – IMC, ADM)
Nesting Season Update: April 5, 2012
© G.A. Septon 2012
Peregrines were
likely on site most
of the winter and an
adult was first seen
at the lower nest
box on February 1.
Although a new
web cam is up and
running at the lower
nest box, the
falcons chose the
upper nest box
this year.
Adult Female: The
adult female here
this year appears to
once again be
"Amylase" (b/r)
*E/*S, a 2008-produced falcon from the US
Steel old coke plant in Gary, IN, back for her
3rd year.
Adult Male: We’ve not gotten a positive read
on the male’s bands yet but it is believed that
“JJ” (b/g) 96/N, produced in 2005 at the
Renew Energy site at Jefferson, WI is back for
his 4th year.
Hatch dates below are estimates:
Eggs: 4 Between March 24 - 30
Projected Hatch Dates: May 1 – 3

Last year they kept switching back and forth you were teasing me about asking greg if I could get the controller and watch for him :egg11: so I don't know why they couldn't have it now they did the same thing last yr. that sucks that we can't watch

3 of 4 Eggs Hatch!

Nesting Season Update: May 7, 2012
© G.A. Septon 2012

On May 7, I visited the nest box again to see how many eggs had hatched.
When I opened the back of the nest box, Amylase held her ground and then decided to attack me
face on.
Fortunately I was prepared but it was nevertheless a surprise since she’s never reacted like this in the past. And then, once she was in the air, she struck the broom I held over my head each time she came close.
“Raynie” (b/r) A/*H, the female that nested here for 12 years before Amylase arrived is one of only two peregrines that have ever struck me. After today’episode, I believe Amylase will be in the running to
become number three!
Adult Female: "Amylase" (b/r)
*E/*S, a 2008-produced falcon from the US Steel old coke plant in Gary, IN, back for her 3rd year.
Adult Male: No positive ID yet
Eggs: 4 Between March 24 - 30
Projected Hatch Dates: May 1 – 3
Hatched: 3 Between May 2 – 4

Well Finally found a bit of info about the Malteurop nest

NOTE: Two of the young at this site
were very small; one - (b/r) 90/R, extremely so. I held off on banding them on May
21st and returned May 25th and banded both. When I returned to check the nest
on May 31st I found (b/r) 90/R dead. On August 11th, Plant Manager Bob Wright
informed me that he had found a dead falcon on site. When I arrived at the site on
August 12th I found the desiccated remains of (b/r) 89/R.

Banding Data
Name Sex Project Band USFWS Band
Julie Female (b/r) 28/V 1907-02767
Martin Male (b/r) 89/R 1126-14440 :sum7:
Half-pint Male (b/r) 90/R 1126-14428
:sum7:
There is a picture of the chicks before all the sad news I'm happy that they did name the sweet little male that died
in the nest, they all deserve names as far as I'm concerned but there is that putting the emotions in action again
