Veolia

I must be mistaken, thus please, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the male does most of the sheltering part here nowadays? :girlcrazy:

It is obvious I can't tell them apart, but in the gif it must be the male, I think. . . the way he acts...that has to be a male. :teehee:

Pics are between 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm (EDT)

DEF, I have seen nothing about banding (guess we better look at their legs)...but the website implies that they band:

"The box – which includes a hinged door to facilitate banding of the birds -"

Thanks to Google, I found it!!! And thanks to Greg Septon who somehow is always on top of all of these chicks/bandings..Looks like they were banded 5/29

Their names are Bit and Bite (Don't know sexes)...here's the part of the article talking about Veolia:

Veolia mounted a webcam on the nest over the last year, allowing employees to view the hatching and development of the chicks.

"These birds have more godparents than any kids I know," said Joyce Harms, community relations manager for Veolia.

Septon and Dean Koscienlak of Veolia access the seventh-floor nest box and retrieve the chicks. The adult female, unbanded and unnamed, swoops above the men.

Septon, who has banded nearly 800 peregrine chicks since 1987, adds two more.

The chicks are named Bit and Bite; the Veolia IT department earned the right to name the birds this year due to its role installing the webcam, Harms said.

Minutes later, Septon and Koscienlak make the return trip to the nest box. The adult male and female watch the scene; even before the back of the box is closed, the female falcon is sitting on the front edge.

Koscienlak typifies the employees at Veolia.

"It's a highlight having this at our workplace," Koscienlak said. "I'm retiring next year after 34 years, and I'd like nothing more than to see another successful brood brought off before I leave."

Though peregrines are still classified as endangered in Wisconsin, Septon is hopeful continued efforts will help them maintain a foothold in the state.

"These birds are extremely well-adapted to urban environments," Septon said. "With help to maintain nest boxes, they should be here for a long time."

For the complete article and a pic:
