so I think it is a wait and see, right now. Are eggs viable. should not be but back in 2007 in Maine, adult male went missing for almost 2 days. Mom left to either to hunt or look for it. She was gone for I believe, for almost a day. It was cold and there was snow on nest. It was a storm. but she covered the eggs before she left. She returned adn so did male. WE thought he got held up becasue of storm.

those eggs hatched. unfortunately, chicks did not survive as parent s could not hunt becasue of bad storm

So I guess we need ot hope that things settle down. as of tonight , I believe something is still up. I this were my falcons nest, I would hop in car and go and investigate. But I cannot here.

some pciutres from today

they both leave

thanks Beth. I just put recorder on adn then downloaded and took off what I thought was pertinent

yes it was heartbreaking that year. Same year we watched S2 at demortel . that was a stressful time.

I still am hoping beyond all hopes that something good happens here

Gosh...I remember that nest, too...I stopped watching it after the eggs hatched!!

Lisa has updated her blog:

I'm happy to see someone on the nest right now, so I hate to be a "Debbie Downer"...but, if whatever disputes have not resolved, then I don't want these eggs to be viable. The last thing I want to see is an eaglet or eaglets that are injured/killed/abandoned, etc...remember last year? Both eaglets died...I'll never forget watching that second eaglet struggling to get under the male, who was incubating the 3rd egg. He never let it under and the theory was that it died of hypothermia. Nope..I don't want to watch that again!!

B, B, and S, Great updates. What's your theory? Do you think this is some kind of a 'take-over?' Do you think the 'original' mom is still around? Do you think the eagles on the Osprey platform are the original eagles who are simply reinforcing their bond (by mating).
(The eagles would not know if the eggs are viable - would they??? Would they start a new clutch even with eggs remaining on the nest? Hormonally, wouldn't it be too late?)
This is so confusing...

My thoughts for BW-It hasn't been right since the beginning and
I would guess they have had troubles from the git-go with
other adults...

Could be the same adults on the "O" nest or
a new adult bonding with a parent.

The eggs will probably be taken by a crow and other
birds.

I think we still have time for a 2nd clutch...JMO

my take is that we have lost one of Blackwater adults. thus only one incubating when it can get in.

I personally feel that we may have 3 eagles out there. but we will never know unless we see one on nest and 2 on osprey cam. One came on nest early morning while one from last night was incubating. incubating eagle left and the one that came in just sniffed, then left. I think it is a new one. why else would it not incubate.
I cannot make up my mind if it was mom or dad on nest last night

still time for a new clutch.
the bonding could have just been reinforcing but don't know

from this morning

next one shows one incubating and then new one on nest . The cam went black for 3 minutes but someone caught the two together as they had set their cam at 15 seconds. will bring htat over in a bit

2 on osprey cam now

Image

some earlier pciutres form this morning

when night one was still on nest this one came to osprey cam . did notstay long

Image

Image

then this one came in adn no one on nest

later on

So it anyone's guess. I just hope these eggs disintergrate now

here is from Laurad on Maine forum. I still think one was a new eagle

I wrote a small program which captures images every 15 seconds. Here is a short video of the action this morning at 06:30-06:35 when both eagles were on the nest. I do not think either was an intruder. I could not tell which was the male or female and almost sensed the second eagle to come into the nest was larger than the one that spent the night - but I don't think the males stay on the nest during the night, do they? Sorry for poor quality, if needed I have the .jpg images and can supply them.

Thanks, B & B - There has definitely been problems at the nest since the beginning...

I'm also wondering if something happened to one of the 'original' parents (I'm thinking of the pile of feathers found on the ground - posted on FB on 2-8-16, were seen 'over the weekend').

The O platform and E nest are approx. 1/4 mile apart; don't know whether they are visible to each other. Wonder how quickly an eagle could fly from one to the other....

(And yes, last season was a heartbreaker...)

an eagle would only take a few minutes to get that distance from osprey nest to eagle nest

I wonder if first eagle in video is part of the pair or not . I am thinking not.

keep watching when the pair come in. one lies on nest and sometimes sits. Hope they are not going to have an egg there.
lots of thoughts go through my head about what is happening. A lot think the both are still there but I am not so sure

no one on nest tonight

there are constantly one or 2 eagle son osprey platform

there was an eagle briefly on nest this morning. It sat by eggs and then left. woudl be nice to have streaming

then there was an eagle on nest this afternoon. the thing about this was it arrived at nest about 3 minutes after eagle left Osprey platform

what I find so interesting about all of this is we have 2 eagles that are a constant on osprey platform. ONe is there from early morning, and then tonight it was there after night lite went on It lay down in osprey nest for a bit and then sat for quite a bit. Hope it does not lay an egg there

Image

she ate there today. my quality is not as good today as I am tired and sometimes I forgot to push play or pause :girlcrazy: :girlcrazy:

Now I know Lisa said they use platform for all sorts of things but if a pair is ready to nest and has no nest it will lay anywhere it can.

I really do not think both of these are our pair. maybe one is. If they are, something has spooked them from the nest.

Looks like the cams are working... and the eggs on the eagles' nest have been disturbed. One egg is visible - and it looks like it may be broken or damaged.
