Update posted on Savannah Eagle's FB page about egg status: :girlsad3:

Hello, eagle friends. Derek and I wanted to let you know that it looks like our keepers will remove the eggs tomorrow. The plan is to examine them to try and determine what might have happened this year. They also might replace the eggs with dummy ones for a week or two so that we won't want to reclutch this year. This is good, because we are kind of tired of sitting on eggs and need to get back to living life in the eagle aviary. There are also plans in the works to talk with some other folks that watch wild cams or who breed bald eagles to understand what their experience might be. We'll try to keep you posted with information that is relevant. If you have any questions, we'll do one last Ask the Eagle Expert this week on Wednesday at 10 am (tomorrow) right here with Natalie Childers, our favorite programs director.

From eagleholic:
"Looks like we have eggs at the new John Bunker Sands eaglecam nest, but cam is down
January 29, 2015 — bald eagle, Eagle, eaglecam, eagleholic, egg, John Bunker Sands, nature, raptors

Exciting report from the John Bunker Sands Facebook page that they are seeing incubation behavior. Unfortunately, they are having cam troubles and are indicating that they probably will not be able to get to the cams to repair now that there are eggs. They have promised to keep us updated on their Facebook page though. Here’s a link to the page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/John-Bunker-Sands-Wetland-Center/165670246783185?fref=photo"

Thanks Kris!! I posted the results of the candling under "Breaking News"...(guess I should bring them here too..)

...and thanks for the egg report, gigi...I think I was only able to get that cam 1 time!! But, good for them...and great success, especially after what they went through to move that nest..

Here's the info from Carolina Raptor Center.

Just posted update on the eggs taken from Savannah and Derek (eagles at Carolina Raptor Center)

From Savannah's FB page:

    Hello extended eagle family,
My keepers took a closer look at the two eggs that were still in the nest (the third one was nowhere to be found and likely eaten as previously assumed) and determined that they were never viable. They did something called candling and even dissected the eggs afterward! We don't know the eggs were non viable because I laid them without Derek's help, if our injuries inhibited the process, or if our age is playing a role. There have been years past where we didn't have viable eggs and the next year we had a healthy eaglet, so hopefully this is just a skip year and next year we'll have some cute fluffy eaglets to coo over! In the meantime, we're hanging out in the larger aviary with our friends every other day so you might not always see us on camera. Thanks for your never ending love and support.
    Love,
    Savannah (and Derek)
