Well, I spent some time watching these two this afternoon...Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but in the video, the female is at top...she (?) has really been busy making the nest bowl soft..he comes in with a large stick and while she is fixing the "bed" he works on construction...but there is a disagreement over a smaller stick that she does not want in the "bed"...Of course, I could have the sexes totally backwards...sorry the vid is so long...I forgot to hit stop...

Hi SGB! Love your pics n videos. Dont worry about their disagreements over branches in the nest. I was watching the PBS special one day a while back, about Eagles on the MS River. They said that the nest is "owned" by the male. He makes all final decisions, and will re-arrange every twig or branch the female puts in it 99.9% of the time, moving it to where HE thinks it belongs. And should he lose his mate, he will bring a new female to HIS nest. A female that has lost her mate will have to leave the nest to find herself a new mate, and then will follow him to his nest. I guess this leaves empty nests open for the newest adults who are looking for the first time for a mate? Once mature, females will look for mates in the general area of where they fledged from. Not so with the males. They could go hundreds of miles away from where they fledged and look there for a mate, possibly never returning to their fledging area. So bickering about the branches will happen alot with eagles! If anyone gets a chance to ever see that show on PBS, watch it. It documents 2 nests along the MS River in the midwest area near the top of the MS River (forget what state)

:snowmancarrot: P.S. SGB - looked at video closely I thought (and I could be wrong) that the larger female was at the bottom of the nest in the beginning? Either way, guess what? After they switch sides, it looks like there is a fresh sprig of evergreen being moved around near the top of the nest! Eggs are imminent! They always put a fresh sprig of evergreen in the nest before they begin making eggs!!!
Woo Hoo!!! :wavingsnowgirl:

I think I saw that same special!!! I know with bluebirds, the male locates the boxes, but the female makes the final decision...and I read somewhere that with house wrens, the male can work his tail off, but the female removes ALL the sticks and starts the nest over...

I'm pretty sure you're right SGB ... Belle is at the top in the beginning and Lib is working on the stick. That was a nice vid! The only time I checked today the nest was empty. I think we'll see eggs here before the week is out. I'm getting a little worried about the weather though. They're predicting an ice storm for us on Wednesday - I hope they just get rain!

They are going to be on the outer fringe of this storm - hopefully they won't get any of it!
