Post from Congowings on the Moderated chat:

Congowings: Good morning to everyone. As you see the Hampton Roads area has received some snow overnight. The forecast is: THURSDAY: Snow ending, then clearing. Total accumulations from overnight and early morning range from a dusting to 3 inches for most of the area, with 2-4" possible southward into North Carolina. N winds 10-20 mph. Highs in the upper 30s. It is 31 degrees at this time. This nest is located in Norfolk, Virginia. Still no official word on whether or not she laid the third egg. At this time, I understand this is the male on the nest. Eagles are well equipped for inclement weather - their feathers offer very good insulation. Their body temperature is 105 degrees and you can see by the snow on the back - they also offer good water-proofing - since the snow isn't melting. Most likely he will get up a bit and shake it off soon. The nest bowl has been kept very warm underneath - so the eggs should be just fine.

Thanks for trying sgb. The bowl is super deep now...not sure we will see all the eggs any time soon. Quite a bit of snow for Norfolk!

The sun is out in Norfolk, Va Beach etc and has been for a good two hours. According to the
weather forecast it will be for the next 5-6 days with temps in the 50's. Last year she had her
eggs in a snow storm much worse than this and it was amazing to watch them take care of those
eggs in much colder weather. My thoughts on this pair is that they are here to protect and serve
each other and obviously their eaglets. Sometimes I think that we humans could learn things about our lives
and taking care of each other as good as this absolutely beautiful pair of eagles do. Reference: The male
taking care of Mom after her second egg.

Jim

I agree Jim, these wonderful birds and this couple are just awesome. The male is a super mate and provider dad!

Wasn't it just recently 50 degrees there??!! Good to hear of the warm-up coming. I agree too, Jim, about what we can learn from this pair as well as other wildlife. Very inspiring.

My computer is not enabling me to see cams right now so I appreciate the photos. I am looking at my calendar of this pair right now.

If you remember last year, it took awhile to see egg number 3 as one was really buried. We were all speculating

Sorry I cannot see to post pictures :-(

I could only sporadically watch the cams for the past 2 days but feel like I experienced it all thanks to the posts and wonderful captures. Thank you everyone!!

Jim, a special thank you for posting your excellent photos. What a privilege to photograph this pair.
