ljames, thank you for your picture postings today. I agree it is hard to understand how the natural world works and why one gets fed in a certain way and another is fed another way. We are all learning!

ljames ... I always try to get a look at their crops. We may miss feedings ... especially when there isn't a good cam. If I can see that they're crop is full then I don't worry if I don't actually see them getting fed. :)

Oh wow, nice picture of the snow nest SGB. I'm watching them right now and you can't even tell there was snow. We didn't get any here. :cheer When the moisture came in, the temps were too high.

Edit:

Yes PattiO, I'm learning not to panic just because I don't see what I think I should be seeing. They both appear to be doing fine.

Both parents there taking inventory it looks like. The chicks look cold and they are in no mood to get up I think.

I couldn't see the big one being fed as the parent's head was just out of the frame, but the little one waited as usual, it got in a few wing flaps in the meanwhile. When it was his turn, he ate for a good while and walked away, so he must have been full :loveshow:

Look at the dark feathers on the big one.

Good grief, I checked in on the babies this morning and didn't recognize them.

One is really getting dark, have to assume that it's the big one, but doesn't always look bigger in the shots

You caught some really cute views of these kids, ljames. I like the one where biggy has its wing over the little one. And, yes, the beak in your last shot looks deadly. :valbugeye: I would not want that thing pecking my head! :vallaf:

Nice slideshow.

This morning I couldn't tell if the big chick was trying to eat that fish or using it for a pillow.

Image

In the afternoon a parent arrived. It amazes me how they land right in the nest w/o landing on a chick.
Image

The parent fed the little one a bite or two, but I'm wondering if they are feeding themselves a lot now.
