I just looked in on Blackwater and although it is dark you can see a stash of fish there.

This nest should do well :loveshow:

Since nest weekend is the 12th annual eagle festival at Blackwater, I am going to make an inquiry as to whether anyone has attended it in the past? The schedule of events looks interesting with what they have planned and I am seriously considering taking the 2+ hour road trip down there from philly.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is and isnt worth viewing when i am there ??

I hope for nice weather that isnt cold or wet for optimal photo opportunities too. The nearby nest at the John Heinz NWR in tinicum here is not that easily viewed without a good sized spotting scope and my 500mm lens really isnt long enough for good images.

George, I have been there in the summer. Eagles are so abundant its amazing. I think the population is high all year. You will get some great shots of eagles all over in the distance. Bring a scope for sure. They can also be perched in trees overhead. They weren't spooked at all when we were close. There is a big loop around the park, with plenty of places to pull over. Go to the visitors center first, which is large and full of great books. They have maps there. I'm sure it will be pretty crowed for the festival.

Well alas i dont have a scope only my 150-500mm lens and a pair of binocs that are 30-60 x 80's and at the high magnification its hard to really follow anything due to the very very narrow field of view .

I am not sure how easy it will be to lug a tripod such as mine around but i am going to attempt that or when i find a good location go back to the car to get it to set it up for shots.

I just hope i dont get too tired from the 2.5 hour drive down there. I just wish i were closer to it. However, even if i dont get any decent shots it will be a fun excursion no matter what happens
