Belle has been gone for an hour now, but nothing has bothered the nest.

LeeLee, some on the blog debate the accuracy of what the "expert" saw. Only time will tell.

Susan, I have to agree w you, I am skeptical now after continuing to watch. If there was no intruder and Lib n Belle were having a tiff today, why wouldnt ONE of them feed the baby. Shouldnt Liberty be bringing fish to the nest, even if the baby wont eat it until tomorrow? Have never seen a nest empty of food while a new eaglet is in it. So, now I begin to worry all over again..... :sham1:

I don't know who said this was Lib all day ... but I don't think I agree. Unless someone actually saw them switch this morning ... but as far as I can tell, lots of people have been watching and no one saw a switch. We can easily see on the cam that an intruder was there.

Baby is alone right now ... don't know how long.

I'm ready to scream!

The person who stated it was Lib on the nest all day is purportedly an eagle expert at NCTC.

Belle has been off the nest since 3:57 p.m. nest time.

Almost 2 hours then ... no wonder it's calling and calling ... I wish someone would come back. I don't know why they started that stupid chat/blog thing on the cam page when there's already a blog. Now all these new people are there saying things they have no clue about. :tearhair

Thanks Susan ... had to re-boot my computer...

For what it's worth .... here's what I saw....and may or may not know.

An adult, who I assumed was Belle, was on the nest. People kept saying they hadn't seen Lib since yesterday. No food has been brought in ... then it was stated that this was Lib on the nest all day and that Belle has been out chasing the intruder. I don't know that I believe that. Intruder landed on the nest as you can see in my pics (if you want to look at them!). Adult that's been there has flown off and returned several times. Now the chick has been alone for 2 hours.

I also feel there was an intruder today based on watching KF's video when he was on the nest and later while I was watching myself I saw Belle flash her wings forward as if to chase someone away from the top left as we view the nest. I think she posted a video of that also.

I will always agree with those who watch a couple day in and day out over any "expert" who casts a casual glance every now and then.

I missed it as the cam froze up, but the blog chatters said there was another defensive move by Belle up toward the cam. Did you see it Patti?

Yes ... something came flying in at her. I'm looking through pictures trying to decide who this is. I think it's Belle, but I'm not sure.

There's something on the right side of her beak that was not there prior to her 2-hr absence.

I need a break ... going outside for a little bit. At least there's an adult there.

Belle just got up and made a few calls then flew off (6:37 pm). Hope she can bring back a fish this time

Wow, too much drama today. Looked like blood or mud dripping down from Belle's "nostril hole" in the beak, but who knows. Intruder tried to land on nest again and Belle flew up fighting. Now is off nest and eaglet is alone again. How long can it go without food, since it hatched early this am?

She's back at 7:02 p.m. but no fish. She continues to call out softly.

Little Paddy seems to still have quite a bit of energy, so I would assume he will be okay until at least tomorrow if not longer.

Someone named Randy at NCTC says he will take a walk along the river and fields to see if he can find Liberty and will report back in a couple of hrs. He agrees that there was an intruder at the nest today. Some are speculating that the intruder is a female which could be the reason Liberty remains away from the nest. Many thanks to Mema Jo (Shepherdstown Blog) for communicating with Randy and letting us know.

Belle has settled down quite a bit and is quiet. Hopefully the intruder has moved away from the nest and will give her some peace overnight.
