Beautiful kitten.
Events like this happens all over our land, in the wild and in our own backyards. It was with comfort that I shared this experience with all of you.

Thank you all who have continued to watch this. I am so sorry for this poor pair...it has been a very tough few years here. Glad to see reports that Lib is still around. Perhaps they will reclutch.

The intruder has stayed at the nest site for close to an hour. Belle has continuously vocalized.

I've been watching, too. Hard to listen to, but I seem to need to see how this all works out. Belle flew out for a bit, then right back, vocalizing loudly. Upon her return I could hear distant vocalizing. Now Belle is eating the fish. It seems that Intruder is not interested in the fish.

If you are especially sensitive, don't tune in the cam right now.

Edit: One thing I will share is the intruder came into the nest again, but Belle shooed her off.

Thanks for the warning Susan - I definitely will not open the cam (it's been difficult enough to read about what's been going on here on the forum).

My heart goes out to these eagles and everyone here who's followed the nest so closely.

Okay, some rather sad events are over now and Belle is settled back down onto the nest bowl. It's safe to tune in the cam if you want to.

Sad events here for the past three days. We witnessed the raw reality of life in the wild once again.

You're right, DEF, about sad events the past 3-4 days. I hope everyone knows that my use of the phrase "sad events" in my last post was a euphemism and not meant to discount everything else that has happened or may happen.

All is quiet and getting dark, so I will sign off.

Thanks Susan and Mick for your continued coverage...these truly were very sad events and probably occur more than we would like to think about.

I guess I need to regroup and start sending all my positive vibes and support to Belle and Lib that they remain unharmed and that they can hold onto this nest...

Hugs to all...

Thanks to everyone who has kept watch. I haven't been home much today but have watched when I could and knew this afternoon the chick wouldn't be able to make it much longer. I've read through everyones posts here and at WOW. Everyone is very sad. I've really run out of words ... it hurts just to be here right now. These 2 are very special to me. :sosad :sosad

At one point today ... there were 261 guests on the WOW forum ... all viewing the NCTC thread. I don't know where they all came from!!!

I have some work to do tonight so I'm signing off. I hate Mondays.

Was just at RRP forum and don posted something that was very comforting

What a disappointment! Tragedy in nature is something I'm sure we all have seen in one form or another, and quite common. Now its brought into our livingrooms and you feel so helpless. However somewhere in the wild a positive story is playing out we just dont see it.

Wow this intruder will not go away. Was just on nest again, inches from Belle and would not leave with all of Belles cries. Finally after a lurch from Belle it left. I would think by now she would use her talons to hurt it? Any way here is a pic, could never see all of intruder. Belle has not moved grass and "buried" POJ and the egg by covering them up. Maybe now intruder will leave, it did not go for her fish laying openly in the nest, it wants the nest. It even tried picking up sticks, making adjustments to the nest, and Belle was freaking out crying then. Thought: could this time have been Liberty? since Belle let him see and then covered up eaglet?
She might have let him see but dont get too close? Need an expert to comment on that or someone from the ground to verify, I never saw its head. The large stick on the left the other eagle just placed or moved into the spot it is now on. For those worried or concerned, second pic shows grass covering over POJ and the egg, Belle has buried them at least for now.

It is 2:25pm est. The intruder has landed on the nest, Belle is on branch or cam crying out. The intruder uncovered the eaglet and egg and moved them a bit. If you are not prepared, do not watch right now. Intruder flew off. Belle did not attack her though, I am afraid she is taking over Belle's nest. Edit: Belle just flew back into the nest. Crying out, intruder back on cam. Hope Belle will actually fight her to get rid of her. Edit: Belle checkout all the intruder had moved, and has decided like late yesterday, that she needed to dig deeper in the nest cup. She pulled out more grasses to make it deeper and rolled the egg. She is looking around, all is still uncovered though. Also, in looking at my pictures of intruder on the nest I see the camera has been moved and zoomed out some. Am wondering - was that a technique used to move the intruder off the camera?

Thank you so much LeeLee for braving the cam and giving us a report...I just can't believe this drama continues...I too wish we had an expert on here...I'm just curious, have there been any reports of Belle and Lib joining forces against this bird?
