WOW Belle just beat up the intruder! The intruder had the nerve to rearrange sticks in the nest RIGHT in front of Belle so Belle started biting her in the head. When intruder still continued rearranging the nest Belle hit her with her wing, and when that didnt work, she placed her feet on intruders back and jumped on flapping and screaming GO BELLE kick her to the curb. (Nothing personal Trudy, but FIND YOUR OWN NEST!) Good girl Belle

Thank you for the good description LeeLee. I am glad to see her vigorously sticking up for herself. She's been under stress and possibly had an inadequate food supply.


There's a video. It's dramatic, but not hard to watch. The intruder seems submissive. My heart goes out to her. I hope she moves on and finds herself a beautiful safe nesting place.

This is great but sad to watch just because she is just doing what mother nature tells her to and
that is to find a home.
Hopefully she will find one soon to call her own and leave these 2 alone.

Susan ... I've been worried about this too. I was glad to read their statement. With so many new people on the OC blog ... they just don't understand. Same thing we just went through with Starr Ranch a few weeks ago. I don't know why they opened that blog when the Momsters already have a blog.

Here's my slideshow from the last encounter before dark. Now everyone on WOW is speculating again about this being a male and not a female.

Well, the nest was empty when it got dark. Was just alerted on WoW that there was an eagle back on the nest. Probably Belle.

Well folks, I am more confused than ever. At 11:20pm est, Belle landed on the nest and made some chip sounds that we are used to hearing her make, contact chips like she does with Liberty. Very soft. It was not the microphone cutting out either, I noticed the difference immediately. Then what I thought was the intruder landed. I took a pic, and even in the dark you can see the dark spot on the head. Heres where it gets weird: Belle did not chase it, someone on the nest was making soft chips, and the intruder moved right next to Belle alongside her, and she did not chase it. The intruder almost appeared to be mirroring Belle, as a male would. At some points, their faces were right next to each other, and Belle did nothing. This went on for 15 minutes. Finally the intruder moved out of sight, or flew off from the top left edge of the nest. Some ppl on the OC forum are saying its Liberty and that he mustve gotten hurt on the head. Others are remarking that in the video of the fight, the intruder at no point has fought back with Belle, and in this latest video, did in fact, appears to be smaller than Belle. If Belle only looked larger because she is fluffed up, is it possible this is a large male. My first eerie impression tonight was it was mirroring Belle. It rearranged sticks and grasses on the nest and Belle was right alongside it not fighting and definately not screeching like previously. I am beginning to think the experts know nothing, the ground people are blind, and I have lost my mind.

Patti here it is but keep this in mind - the night camera was almost "stuttering" where the birds movements were like in slow motion, and sometimes when that happens the lights and shadows change with each stutter. So I didnt post it because I was not sure if it was black spots or where the wind blows the feathers the wrong way, like you can tell that when the motion is fluid, but with the low light the motion was stuttering. Here it is.

Someone on the OC forum will probably post a link for the video. If it is a male larger than Liberty, would that explain why he is not at the nest, like would he NOT fight a larger male? There were several times I saw the dark spot on the head, so I did not capture the best view, partly due to stutter effect. The video may show the spot clearer, or may show it is not a spot clearer. Like I said, if it was a female, what was Belle thinking?

Maybe he did fight it and didn't win ... or backed off ... given the size difference. <sigh> Poor Belle ... and Lib. It's soooo not fair. :(

Honestly, each day this continues on longer, I am actually more sad for this nest. It is not getting better, it seems to be more confusing and I am afraid either Belle or Liberty is going to lose.
