Oh my goodness, looking at that picture of those 3 little babies who have lost their mother is heartbreaking. And the poor mate too. I am so sorry to hear of such tragic news .

The folks in Norfolk will do what is best for these eaglets, and that is so comforting, but my wish is that Dad can continue to provide meals and that this sweet family can stay together in their comfortable surroundings until they are ready to leave. May Dad and those humans who loved Mom find comfort and peace. This is my prayer.

Thank you Susan. That is my prayer as well.

George, do let us know if there is any coverage in Philly.

I was overjoyed to hear that Dad brought a meal. I think he will step up. These eaglets have had a wonderful start and are healthy so I am hoping and convinced that they will successfully fledge under Dad's watchful eye and guidance.

Jim, your last photo is perfect. Thank you once again for sharing news from the ground.

My wish is also for dad to care for these young till f ledge. Or at least one of them if they do not think he can handle all 3.

I am going to light a candle but you are all in my prayers tonight
thank-you Jim for the wonderful picture of mom. what a gift.

Jim - Thanks so much for sharing one of your last photos of the NBG Eagle Mom with us here. It's a beautiful tribute to a truly beautiful eagle. She reached many hearts around the world and will be dearly missed!

The sadness from everyone ... is heartbreaking. All the teachers who have to explain this to their classes tomorrow. Everyone's heart is just breaking. :(

Thank you for that beautiful picture Jim ... I know Duane was there today, probably Shelly and Jim perhaps? It's hard enough just being a cam watcher ... but I'm sure the folks who on are site are feeling it way worse than us. :sosad :sosad2

She truly was a Beloved eagle.

These are my last 2 photos taken Friday.

I learned about this tragic story yesterday evening (UK time) and just want to expresss my sincere sadness that an obviously beautiful and much loved mother eagle has been lost.

I hope that today will be a new start for this nest.

Did the father come back at all yesterday - does anyone know.

I didn't have a link to this cam, but do now, and wll be following this family with much hope. So sorry for all of you who have been following this nest, and hope you take comfort from knowing that so many people are sharing the grief with you.

Just read back, after asking the question, of whether dad had been back to feed them. Great news.

Jim, thank you for the beautiful picture of Mom. So fitting for a last goodbye . . . :sosad2
Tears come very easy still, but the fact that Dad is taking good care of his babies makes me smile again. He has proven to be a good parent all these years, I think he will manage.

I have been told that the VDGIF will remove the three eaglets from the nest this morning!!! We have to trust this decision even though we might not agree. Give Dad a chance! He fed himself and the three of them this morning with a large fish. Time will tell!

I may have been premature about the eaglets being removed this morning! I am sorry about that. This is a very emotional time. There is still discussion about removing them and when and to where. But the window is small. I don't want to venture any further until I hear for certain.

I certainly do not want to second guess the experts, but I hope they do not remove the eaglets...at least not yet...Dad is proving that he has not forgotten about them and I think he needs to be given this chance. He's just lost his mate, I don't want him to lose his kids too...I know that's an emotional reaction to this situation...so its a good thing I don't have to make that call...If they do decide they need to remove them, I certainly pray that they will leave at least one in the nest for him to nurture...

I have the cam up, so I'll keep taking pics. I am personally very disappointed that they have made this decision. Dad was just at the nest and right on schedule with feedings.

Barb,

I cannot get to NBG right now, but they are removing the three eaglets at 10:00am this morning. Knuckles Tree Service is under the nest now! That is a update from two freinds who are there now!
