Mom pics it up (I assume~since the cam stopped)

I finally took the time to check something out on the nest information & the question I had was answered. Remember how Deborah didn't show any interest in the first chick to begin with? I wondered whether she was a first-time mother (like Red in Wilmington) & didn't recognize that the first chick was actually her baby (like Red in Wilmington). She hatched in 2009, making her a first-time mother, so I do believe that's why she acted like she did. Once the second chick hatched, she was fine, also like Red. Just learned something new about falcon behavior!

Great observation, Catwoman...and I bet you're right...I didn't realize that mom was that young!!!

This is the 6:00 pic at Oak Creek. last egg was laid 4/18...I don't think we're gonna have a hatch here.. :cryinggirl: I wish I had written down when it looked like serious incubation started. (I guess I could go back and look). It didn't start when it should have...such a bummer for Scout and Orville's little girl. So many unhatched eggs this year...

I don't remember seeing so many chicks laying on their backs until this year. Am I just forgetting?

Maybe its because we have so many members posting pictures that we're catching more different behaviors about falcons & their chicks? :suncrazy:

Name the chicks at Pleasant Praiirie & Valley
Falcons hatched at 3 power plants

Amara the falcon is named for 11-and-a-half-month-old Amara Burmeister, who is currently fighting a malignant rhabdroid tumor of the kidney — an aggressive form of cancer that occurs mainly in children. Amara has undergone two rounds of chemotherapy as well as two blood transfusions

The male falcon is named Kilowatt. Given that he was born at a power plant, Kilowatt seems fitting.
