I do not know loons AT ALL but I think there might be distress calls being made. Pics coming and I don't see baby.

The parents were really making calls that didn't sound right to me. Here's the one that came on the eggs after baby #1 left. You can see the mate close by:

Up and then back down. The vocalizations sound distressful.

The mate comes up on the nest for a bit then goes off again.

An egg roll and all is quite

Where is the baby?

More vocalizations now, which sound to be calling to the mate, but I don't hear answers.

54 degrees Clear Wind 5mph W

There is one question on everyone's mind, including my own.

What happened to the brave little chick who jumped into the water in the dark last night?

I am happy to report to you that I have seen him swimming with the male not too far from the nest just minutes ago!

HE IS SAFE!

So all of your/our hearts can relax and rejoice.

The plucky little loon has made it through the night and he seems to be doing well.

The male just let out several yodels that he broadcast to the whole lake. And there was our little loonling swimming bravely beside him. Apparently strong and doing well.

I know I went to bed with a heavy heart last night. Actually not too many hours ago! Wondering if he would make it through the night.

But he has!

So now we wait for the other egg to hatch and hopefully see TWO healthy little loonlings swimming around.

Today is a good day!

"loonlings" :flirty:

What a relief to hear that #1 is okay! I didn't want to go to bed last night either! Thanks, Beth.

 Though they have left the nest, the family can still be seen this am, swimming around close to the nest area, near the raft. This may be the last hours to see them, so check it out. Looks like parents have the babies on their backs, and all is well.

Maple at RRP forum pointed me to this

Here is one of the moment when the family swims off into the sunset - literally. Lots of celebratory calls as they disappear.

I started freaking out when I watched it I couldn't see the other chick in the nest then it dawned on me after watching it 3 times (YES 3) :hahah that it was on dads back all along.
It was so soothing and a little bittersweet to watch them go but oh so joyful to know that they both made it thus far
