Just an update on our Portland RTH's. They are close to fledging, being 43, 43, and 39 days old. You can see their size, and alot of feathers, and wingersizing going on. Some downish fluff still sticking though. There is some worry though, one of the chicks has hurt his foot while practicing yesterday. It does not appear to be the first hatched, he is in pic below wingersizing. So this may be number 2, since he is sitting I cannot tell for sure. Can only tell if 2 and 3 are both up, to compare! Bob says it may not be serious, and he just may have to rest it for a day or so, they will be keeping an eye, but intervening before other 2 fledge may scare them off fire escape unnecessarily. So we will wait and see. Oldest ripping at food himself too. Here are a couple pics, and link to info is below.

:loveshow: :loveshow: :loveshow: Just love these darlings. Checked in tonight, and got a pic of number 1 who flew up to the railing as I watched. Turned my head and woops - he was gone! So second pic is of mom flying in to check on 2 and 3, who were looking down for number 1. You can see moms red tail so you know it is her. While I was writing this, 2 started heavy duty wingersizing, going nuts, so I just had to take another pic of him too! By the time Im done writing, he may be on the lower railing or sidewalk or sky too! Number 3 did get up and move around as you can see in the pics. Will see how he progresses, and if number 1 returns to nest tonight :girlluv:

2 and 3 looking for sibling, mom flew in to check on them and take a head count LOL

2 has to show he can keep up with sibling, starts wingersizing like crazy

UPDATE on the Portland RTH babies: Today, 2 has taken its first flight that I saw. Two and 3 were on the nest and both flew to the railing. Camera zoomed out and low and behold, mom was on the end of the railing closest to the cam on the rt side, encouraging them. Then 2 flew below, and then out of sight. A little while later, while 3 was exercising his wings, and peeping for food, mom flew down to the nest and showed him there was still a half a bird of some type there to munch on! While they were both on the nest, 2 flew in from the right side and landed on the rt side railing, so he obviously had a flight and was coming in from the street side. WOW! Here are a few pics, hope 3 gets his flight today still or tomorrow.

Thanks for the link, KF...I couldn't get the video to play, but could watch the interview with the officer...my favorite question:

"What was the demeanor of the bird"....say what?

Did you catch the officer's First name? Cage...It was meant to be!!!!

UPDATE on Portland RTH juvenile: The juvenile rth that was from the KGW Audubon Raptor Cam nest, had been injured and found on Tuesday. On Friday, it was flight tested and returned to the nest. Thursday though, a second RTH was brought in to Audubon. It had severe head trauma from possibly being hit by a car, and had to be euthanized. :cryinggirl: They cannot say yet where this red tail juvenile came from as the area it was found in could have been KGW's rth's or the nearby other RTH nest in downtown Portland. We may hear more once people in Portland are aware, they usually take pictures of the juveniles flying together and being brought food on top of the buildings by the parents. They may get a pic of them together to know. And we may also never know. Here is a link to the story:
