Finally the ice has cleared and the birds can get up to the beach. Last year they appeared on September 19 . . . . .
I wonder if it won't be too late for them to nest now. Still some big ice shelves every now and then though, depending on the wind and tide I guess.

It seems that quite a few of the penguins are now incubating. And the crew is busy listening to the stars (it's a radio telescope) and fixing the damaged roof of the living quarters.

On the Blog of Martin Grund I found a few pictures that gives you an idea of the surroundings of the base
