Thursday, according to the Alaska Loon Cam's host.

MANY Thanks again to Kitten :loveshow: for letting us know about the renesting!

Both baby Pacific loon chicks were alive and well, learning the ups and downs of life on Anchorage's Conners Lake from their parents heading into their first weekend as Alaskans. It's the second clutch for this longtime resident of the lake; earlier this season, after only one chick hatched in the loon's first clutch, a predator -- likely a bald eagle -- snatched the baby shortly after it had broken through the egg.

Cam host and Anchorage Audubon Society enthusiast Jean Tam, who lives on the lake, has confirmed that the same female loon who's been visiting the nesting platform the last eight summers, has left the nest to hunt for her newborns.

"(The chicks) have been off the nest a few times for brief feeding sessions, and back on to be brooded by one of the adults. Keep your fingers crossed!" Tam said via email late Friday.
