Many watchers felt that E2 sounded different after the cam came back on. Some were concerned that she may be ill. RRP said from ground observation she was flying well and she was fine.
(I refer to her as E2, her affectionate name. D1 is her professional name)

On 8-14 at 8:30 am her mother brought a rabbit or some kind of mammal to the nest. E2 arrives 25 minutes after her mother left and stayed for almost an hour and 40 minutes. (edited to show female adult leave and E2's arrival)

E2 came back at 12:02pm, stayed for 4 minutes. She did not return again.

At 3 pm her transmitter reported she was at the MN border and by 6:20 pm she was 26 mi SE of Rochester MN, 14 mi from the nest. Please see next post for maps.
Today it was reported by RRP that she is 110 mi away from the nest

Here is a map from Raptor Resource Project plotting E2's travels on the 14th.

8-16 RRP post,
"Tracking map will be updated soon, but the data from yesterday (8/15) shows that D1 traveled much farther North, and is North of Wabasha, MN, along the Chippewa River, and was last tracked in Wisconsin yesterday, approximately 110 or more miles from home in Decorah. "

Edit; To add updated map from the travels on the 15th.

Mick, that was a great capture!

Video: Mysterious Shadows at Decorah

A fierce wind shakes the leaves and blows down a branch. Mysterious shadows move across the nest. They look like leaping fish, but I think they may be winged insects flying in front of the cam.

Recorded at 5 PM local time

E2/D1 is heading SE. She was NW of Lake Superior on the 7th but now she is well south of it. I wish they produced the map a little bigger. I can't read the cities...

Branch material is just beginning to be added to the top. It's going to be interesting to watch the process of building the new layer.

Good for her! She's got to scare that raccoon off before eggs are laid in the spring. It will take a number of times before he is convinced to stay out of the nest.

Thanks, Mick, for capturing this.

I didn't capture it!!! I recorded it from the archives. I thought it was a good documentation of nest activity but take no credit for capturing it live. I wrote that in the description of the video at YT. I no longer feel right about recording from the archives- I don't want to mislead.

Lastest update on the injured juvenile. Posted at RRP.

"Evening all,
The injured juvie had a restful and quiet night in ICU. She's not wanting to tear up her own food, not surprising with an ouchy leg, but is taking water-soaked chicken from the forceps. Food is going in and poop is coming out. Both good. Her feistiness may be be due to being "shocky" after the accident. Wouldn't you be a bit out of sorts if you got hit by a car? Juvie has an appointment with the doctor Monday.

Linette
on behalf of SOAR"

Mick, now listen to me. You should not feel badly about the video you posted because it brought such joy to all of us. You are so talented with being able to "locate" video that is interesting and as long as you document where it came from then everyone is happy. Please put your video back and continue to do what you do. We love it.

Listen to her whine and squeak at him as she mantles. I'll have to learn that technique :teehee:
