Thanks for the link Chris7. Can't wait for next spring for the new chapter at NBG.

Thanks for all of the welcomes!

I did get to see the eagles on October 5th. This is really dark… Sunset was at 6:44PM and this video was taken at 6:51. But they came in together and were chattering. Then they chattered some around the nest. One left (which I missed) and then the other one left. This was my first time meeting the new lady and it was exciting! Over three hours at the garden for less than a minute of video -- but it was worth it! (0:51):

I forgot that I had this on my camera... A backyard bald eagle made a showing on September 17th, but didn't stick around for long. Turn down your speakers, my dog was barking... (0:35):

Thank you so much chris. That one minute was well worth it. If I'm seeing correctly at the end of the video you can see the nest in the tree.

Your backyard eagle sure took flight in a pretty way!

Thank you for the great look at new, fingers crossed, NBG Mom.

I thought I'd give it another shot this evening. I got there late -- about 45 minutes before they closed. The male flew over just as I got there and I hadn't turned on my camcorder yet. So, I missed him.
:furious:

But I did get the female. She was restless. We speculate it was due to some workers putting up some big party-type tents nearby. (Looks like they've got a wedding there this weekend...) This is another short bit. I messed with my camera settings a bit to try to lighten up the video.(0:24)

We've only got until October 15th of being able to stay until 7PM -- which seems to be the only time we can catch them when they are flying into the nesting area for the night. After the 15th, they will close at 5:00PM. There probably won't be any chance of catching them with any regularity until they start nestorations. I hope to get over there a few more times before the 15th.

One thing I think we have all learned in the past few years , is that we love our nature and animals and birds and we get attached to them. but when we loose one, we grieve in our own ways, and it hits those hardest who are directly associated with the sites.

But it is also good to see that that the remaining falcon, eagle, etc. goes on and allures a new mate and then the cycle continues. DAd Norfolk has so much to teach this one. It would have been sad to loose them both. this happens at some sites and then we loose that expertise.

There are great ones that will always be remembered and Ma NOrfolk is one. But this nest will continue to produce and that is good.

Good Luck to them both this season. It will be hard but I know all associated here would rather see Dad with a new mate , than without.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback! Tomorrow is the memorial dedication for the Mom that died. I'll be recording and posting that. I've also got video from tonight that I still need to process. They flew in shortly after dark and you can hear the excitement when Dana spotted them! I've been down there a lot this past couple of weeks because tomorrow is the last day before they switch to their winter hours. They will close at 5:00PM instead of 7:00PM. So, no more catching them coming to the nest area at sunset to roost for the night...

This is the NBG eagles from October 8th. It was pretty dark. When they flew in, all I got was blurry eagles. This is what I was able to get:
Eagles (3:02)

This is from October 9th when a juvi flew over. It really is hard to tell if it's a bald eagle when I'm looking through the little eye piece... Then I yelled "eagle" at the other photogs who were on the other side of the trees/canal. We spot for each other. In case you were wondering...
Juvenile Bald Eagle (0:14)

I've posted other non-eagle videos on youtube (great blue heron, geese, ducks, etc.) I won't post the links here since this is an eagle forum. But if you are interested, they can be found with the rest of my videos.

This is a crop of a photo that "joefore" took and posted on the NBG forum. He works at NBG and gets great pics before the garden even opens. Or in places that we can't go. We are all so jealous of Joe. He took four pics that day. They can all be found at: http://www.norfolkeagles.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5535 These were the first pics of the new lady that anyone had taken!
